Official American Muscle vs. Import thread!

A debate that will never go to rest. Go to any youtube video and you'll see muscle heads and import fans arguing furiously over which is better. This is the thread to debate.

Me? I'm a muscle guy. Nothing beats the sound and shear power of a v8. It's even better with a screaming supercharger thrown into the mix.

(horrible quality, but you can see the camaro take off)

my computer is being lame as hell right now, but i wanted to get some vids of muscle vs 350z's. i'll do it tomorrow when my computer isn't actin up.

Re: Official American Muscle vs. Import thread!

I'm an import man myself, not really a fan of the FWD ones like hondas though or any rice modifications. V8's definately sound better and are probably more reliable but imports offer the best bang for your buck performance wise, atleast in Australia. My 16 year old 2.5L turbo skyline still keeps up with the brand new LS3 commodores for acceleration and outperforms the v8s round the bends, all while using 9L/100kms around town and less on the highway (which is imprtant if petrol isnt dirt cheap like it is in america)

Re: Official American Muscle vs. Import thread!

I've always been a muscle car guy. '96 Camaro from age 17-19, '04 GTO 19-23, and from 23-present day i own a 2009 WRX

It's a lot faster than the two previous cars and the AWD is great and all, but i will always miss torque on-tap and whipping my back end around every corner.

So...neutral, now.

Re: Official American Muscle vs. Import thread!

to me this argument is stupid, i like both muscle and import, i drive a import, theres different things that are better and worse about each type. for example, straight line my car could beat a muscle car off the line because i have AWD instead of spinning my tires im going to take off, But if that muscle car has 300 more hp than me yea hes gonna catch me. Around turns, im sorry but no muscle car is going to keep up. yes muscle cars can easily make 1k hp, but hey the 4g63 in evo 8,9's guess what, they can make 1k hp also. and thats with 4 less cylinders.

Re: Official American Muscle vs. Import thread!

Cloner man... Stay off them bikes.

Lets see...
93 Altima (fast for a 4 banger, until you put it in the snow)
Then a 2005 FZ6
Traded that for a 2003 GSXR1000
Sold that to a guy and bought a 1984 CB700
And a 1983 Dodge Ram (work truck, hate it)
Then bought a 2003 Audi A4 Quattro... love this car, but wish I bought the 1.8 L turbo and modded the shit out of it. I like my imports!

Re: Official American Muscle vs. Import thread!

Straight line or track? In a straight line the value award goes to Cobras and Camaros which are both American. Supras are sexy as fuck and are monster highway cars but Cobras are 200 lbs. less and can be made faster for cheaper.

Throw in the curves (i.e. fun) and it's a whole different story. The only American car that can SERIOUSLY compete on the track is the Corvette. Imports have pretty much all of their cars... RX-7's, Skylines, Silvias, MR2s, Miatas, 370Zs, M3s will all rape anything American that doesn't say Z06 on it.

yeah ok. tell that to my 120k mile old BONE STOCK 7 bolt block that has seen 25psi of boost for 3 years. i can run 12's all day on stock injectors in a $3000 car.

and supras crankwalk on start up. no oil + bearings not warmed up + heavy clutch = crankwalk.

Re: Official American Muscle vs. Import thread!

American muscle cars are the best performance for the lowest possible price, as far as im concerned. Sure european cars are better, but they also cost way more than american cars. how about this, a lambo for $300,000 and not much aftermarket, or a $70,000 corvette that comes with 500 horsepower and can easily make much more.

I love how people always say that american engineers suck and european/ japanese companies are so much better but seriously i'll take a ford GT for $150,000 that will smoke most lambos and ferraris that cost twice as much. Oh and the new zr1 vettes? makes european cars look like a joke at a third of the cost. So For me its always american muscle because I love the sound, I love the performance you get for the price, and I love the style.

I guess I was kinda ranting about european cars, not imports but regardless I love muscle cars.

Oh and you should check out some of the ford performance vehicles they sell over in australia, they kick a lot of ass. I only wish they would sell them here.

Nissan GTR, less money than all of them and just as much performance.

I like both imports and domestics. although at the moment I own 3 Honda's. I don't think that you can use price as a deciding factor in the performance of one to the other. 11's are just as easily attainable for any of the imports or domestic, and cost nearly identical in price to do so. Once you start going faster, price increases incrementally with both.

Both are just as fun in there own different ways and its basically dependent on what you as a person prefer from your vehicle. I prefer the mid-top end power of a turbo import, but the out of the hole torque from a v8 is just as much fun.

Who cares what anyone thinks of the other, make them fast and keep the racing on the track and just enjoy it.
