From a UK perspective............... Alcohol is legal coz the goverment make millions of pounds in taxes from it, despite that it also costs the NHS millions. But, as most of the taxes (in the UK anyway) don't get used for for what they were raised for ie, booze and fags going to improve the piss poor NHS system where old people die of simple complaints while wating months and months to get treatment, road and petrol taxes (over £4 a gallon and i think it's something like 80% tax on that) going to the transport dept to make our over congested inadequate road system better etc. etc. They seem to get filtered off to the goverment to pay for their lavish lifestyle and the incredible way that they waste OUR hard earnt money. Perhaps if MJ was legalised they could then tax it thus lining their pockets even more but i don't think that it will ever happen, shame, i could be the "minister for pot" the expensis claim form would make quite interesting reading Loads of different departments could be created thus making jobs avaliable. I'm sure that if the good voters out there knew that the taxes were going to help fund growing farms etc, thus helping to keep costs down!! and also to help the people with drug problems etc. Totally free medical use. Crime would go down let's face it, who wants to go and commit a crime when they're to blazed to even put the kettle on!etc etc etc................. (Skoobie MP has a good ring to it !) Vote for me!! Nothing that any goverment do is for mine, yours, or anyones benefit....... it is all for themselves (greedy fuckers) Enough of my rambling on.....L8rs |

Sounds a lot like the US... I hate living in a capitolist society. Everything is run according to what can put the most $$$ into the officials' pockets. They don't give a fuck about their citizens (for the most part, anyway)... They're just a bunch of greedy ass beurocrats. What's Canada and The Neatherlands like? I'm seriously considering moving out of this country in the not so distant future LOL, that'd be tight.

I say that because I don't think you'll ever find one. It doesn't matter what economy or type of gov't there is, politicians ALWAYS get kick-backs. You think the communist leaders lived in the slums and made $20/day like everyone else? Hell no. Money makes the world go round no matter where you are. Canada is no different. In my opinion anyway.

I'm with Astro. There really is very little difference in Canadian government as compared to the states. Sure the MJ policies are a bit more lax but we've both got the same greedy puppets at the top.

Yeah there's nothing wrong with Canada, hopefully they legalize it soon, that would really show some precedent for the States to follow. Hell if they fully legalized it up there, I probably would move there. But I mean fully legalize it, not just decriminalization (which is cool and all, but we have that here in some states).

the right wingers are not pro-life; they are anti-choice and the usa isn't the only country in the world where abortion is legal btw; why aren't you bitching at China who engages in the practice of "forced abortions"

| The Muse of Dance | You know what I think is funny.. that it's typically men who bitch about women having an abortion, cause if it were men who got pregnant it would never have become illegal to begin with, and no one would say a thing about it.. IMO it's just another way for men to try to assert their dominance over women. But, like Hempress, I don't want to get into another abortion debate, so I will leave it at that. ~ Terpsichore

It's an interesting point about the possible way that it became a law, but I don't think that it's a way for men to assert their dominance, women just feel strongly about the issue on both sides.... Trust me, having lived in the deep south, bible belt part of the country for my entire life, i can personally attest to numerous woman's pro-life groups (mainly within churches yes, but thats a huge force). They meet weekly and update each other on the latest news, and organize their demonstrations. A lot of woman feel strongly about the issue on both sides of the coin having said all that, I'm pro-choice Last edited by ipack; 02-02-2006 at 09:14 AM. | |
