Got prescribed Zoloft today..

...when I went in for stomach problems. It was kind of weird. Had a different doctor than usual, and one of the first things she mentioned when I said stomach problems was "irritable bowel syndrome" and how it could be stress/anxiety.

Now, I was planning on scheduling another appointment for anxiety regardless, but I find it weird that the first answer to my stomach problems is getting put on an antidepressant. Makes me think that maybe they're just trying to get everybody hooked in? Then I wonder if thats just my inner-teenager coming out, so I thought I'd ask. Plus I don't really know anything about Zoloft/sertraline.

Anybody else find it odd?

Zoloft is used to treat depression. It's side effects include: stomach pain, agitation, anxiety, changes in vision, constipation, decreased sexual drive, diarrhea, dizziness, dry mouth, fatigue, inability to sleep, increased sweating, loss of appetite/upset stomach, nausea, ejaculation problems, shakiness, tiredness

So no, it doesn't make any sense whatsoever that he/she would be trying to prescribe you zoloft lol, especially considering the side effects could possibly just make your condition worse than it already is.

when I stopped taking zoloft after 2 years, my sex drive increased like ten fold

fuck zoloft. i was on it for about a year, turned me into a zombie (not the good kind), and didn't help the depression at all. maybe it works for others, but in my case, fuck that shit.

Same. Zoloft made my dick hide like a frightened turtle. Now that I've been off it for almost a year, the wife and I are back to screwin' like wabbits!

Meh don't take it. Drastically reduces your sex drive. Rolling it in a jay works wonders though.

I never felt any of that, only good things.Thoughts become clear, and you think positive, its like magic.. except if you ever get really depressed or upset after you up the dose you will flipp out. It definitely did not decrease sexual drive but you could hump for 5 hours if you wanted to.
Never take more then you are prescribed. It will only make you panic/nervous break down/freak out if you have more than what you suppose to.

don't take that shit it makes you into a zombie and is not worth it. you will find in the realm of IBS that doctors generally don't know shit. I would use weed to cope with symptoms and find other natural remedies to help you overcome it.

My family has had a history of IBS and even though I personally have not been diagnosed it my father and my sister both have it. They are both very stressed individuals and my dad even has anxiety disorders that he's been prescribed xanax and k-pins for that he refuses to take.

Instead, try something like seeing a nutritionist, exercising every day, don't smoke cigarettes, visit a jacuzzi once a day, practice yoga at an ACTUAL yoga place (none of that gym shit), listen to some good music, meditate, and in general find ways to relieve yourself of this stress (there are countless ways). Landmark education worked well for my dad even though alot of people think it's a cult.

Don't think IBS is a joke, because it's not. I don't know how long you've had stomach problems, but IBS is suprinsingly common and can be very unpleasent. My sister was recently diagnosed it, she had an ultrasound on her stomach and every possible test imaginable and there is nothing physically wrong with her. And yet she struggles with the symptoms of IBS daily, and is becoming a slave to pharmeceuticals to relieve her of syptoms.

Neither of them were ever prescribed something like zoloft...i would think anti-anxiety would treat the stress better, and that's what they prescribed my dad.

SSRIs for the most part prevent all ups and downs from your mood. Your mood is just a mellow blah at all times.

i was on zoloft for awhile shit was terrible. didnt help me at all. ive been on zoloft, effexor, wellbutrin and a few others i cant remember the names of. anti-depressants can help some ppl, cannabis can help everybody. go green

Your right, just because they didn't work well for me doesn't mean that they can't help some people.

yea and some ppl just think that the mellow mood where ya dont actually feel anything means theyre gettin better, just cause they dont feel bad. id rather have the awful and the awesome instead of blah
