i cant robo trip!!

so i just did a bunch of research and i found out that taking DXM while taking SSRI's (antidepressants, such as Zoloft, which i currently take every day) on a regular basis is harmful, and sometimes fatal. heres the section of a DXM website i found about it:

6.2.9 Serotonin Syndrome


Category: Theoretical (especially DXM + antidepressants)
Serotonin syndrome is a recently-identified condition that typically occurs when combining serotonergic drugs (i.e., drugs that stimulate, or mimic, serotonin activity in the brain). Most of these drugs are antidepressants (MAOIs, SSRIs such as ProzacTM or ZoloftTM, tricyclics, lithium, and atypical antidepressants); others include buspirone (BuSparTM), MDMA (ecstasy) and other phenethylamines, tryptophan, harmine and harmaline (both recreational MAOIs), and possibly serotonergic hallucinogens such as LSD, psilocybin, and DMT. Phentermine, fenfulramine, and phen-fen can also cause serotonin syndrome when combined with DXM.
DXM induces a release of serotonin, and while it has never been demonstrated to cause serotonin syndrome by itself, it has been shown to do so in combination with other serotonergics (365). In particular, combining SSRIs and DXM may be risky; one paper found serotonin syndrome from an SSRI combined with DXM with a concurrent vascular disease (364).
Serotonin syndrome is indicated by a combination of three sets of symptoms: changes in mental status, autonomic dysfunction, and neuromuscular abnormalities. Specific symptoms include:

• Changes in Mental Status
  • hypomania
  • confusion
  • agitation
• Autonomic Dysfunction
  • diarrhea
  • low-grade fever
  • diaphoresis (sweating)
  • shivering
• Neuromuscular Abnormalities
  • myoclonus (sudden, brief muscle spasms)
  • hyperreflexia (exagerrated reflexes)
  • ataxia (incoordination and clumsiness)

Yes, there is some overlap (e.g., shivering can considered as an autonomic dysfunction or a neuromuscular abnormality).
More serious symptoms can include rhabdomyolysis (basically, your muscle cells break open and leak muscle-cell-parts into your bloodstream, poisoning you), coma, and death. Serotonin syndrome deaths are rare, however.
Treatment of serotonin syndrome requires medical intervention, and consists of supporting measures to treat the symptoms, and possibly antiserotonergic drugs. Benzodiazepines (such as ValiumTM) have also been used with considerable success (366).
The astute among you will notice that many of these "symptoms" are characteristics of DXM intoxication. In fact, many serotonergic drugs can cause these symptoms. The question is whether or not the symptoms become severe and numerous. At least one symptom from each of the three categories is generally required for a diagnosis of serotonin syndrome.
Once again, if in doubt, see a doctor. And avoid using DXM in combination with any antidepressant. Remember, combining DXM with a MAOI has been repeatedly fatal!




I'm so pissed. I'm 18 and a senior in high school and ive robotripped only once before (but it was the wrong kind of medicine that had several active ingredients, so i got kinda sick), and by coindence all my friends are working tonight. and i cant smoke cuz im taking a break for a while. so i'm stuck at home, and i have a bottle of "wal-tussin" gel caps i was planning on robotripping off of, until i saw this article. im so disappointed! any thoughts?

Sorry to hear that. I stopped taking Zoloft a long time ago because it bothered my throat and zapped my energy. I find the first plateau of robo tripping the most enjoyable because it is like a stimulant. You don't feel too messed up. Good to go to rock concerts with.

i was thinking maybe if i just got to the first plateau i might be ok? cuz im thinking maybe those supposed "deaths" were with high doses?

You would still run a high risk.
and its incredibly bad for the brain.
Just buy some pot.

If you think it's worth the risk. How high of a dose of SSRI are you taking?

you can, it says MAOIs have been repeatly fatal, which I do concur, MAOIs are serious business

but one time, I took 3 different antidepressants, (zoloft, effexor, wellbutrin) took 60mgs of adderal, 2mgs of xanax..and two zicam cough maxes + weed

but I strongly do not recommend the above, It was a fluke that I didn't need some medical attention..(but the night was fine, wasn't even crazy)

but in my opinion it isn't recommended, but doable, unless you are taking maois then thats just the big no no

ive been taking 25 mg of Zoloft everyday since i started about 2 1/2 months ago. i also take strattera, but thats not an SSRI. i was thinking though. it said that benzodiazepines help to counteract seratonin syndrome. my mom has some triazolam (halcion) which are benzos and perscribed for insomnia. ive taken them before to help me sleep, and i had no side effects. they're 0.125mg tabs. if i took one or two when i dosed the DXM, would that work maybe?

truthfully I think that the xanax I took that night saved me...but also reduced the 'trips effects'

save the triazolam, benzos/alcohol(medium/large amounts) kill trips..(for me anyways)
its less psychodelic (sp) imo

i advise, that you take a small amount of triazolam (say half of a pill to 1/3 of a pill) and only if you feel that more will only help, then do so

ok sounds good, but how much should i take? i looked on www.dextroverse.org found out that for my weight, 250-300 mg would be in the lower spectrum of the second plateau. you think if i took half a triazolam id be ok with that dose? also id be taking promethazine for the nausea.

I hear that promethazine kills your trip. If you're just in it for euphoria than the first plateau is enough.

idk if i said this or not but i dont have access to any other drugs. that includes alcohol. and to neoshredder, ok, well ive got this other nausea med called Zofran (IC Ondansetron). ill just take that, it dissolves in your mouth and its stronger than promethazine anyways.

its not that big a deal to miss a day.

i used to always skip talking my Zoloft to do acid.
back when i was still on it.
fucking devil pills man.

and 300mg is a light DXM dose.

Some of us are underage or don't react too well with alcohol. I get joint pain, dehydrated, headaches, and overheated with alcohol. Thus I find cough syrup in light doses to be a much better feeling over alcohol. I'm not crazy enough to go past the second plateau though or take any other active ingredients other than Dextromorphan HBr.
