the store i bought the spores from only had golden teacher, so i just got those. i just hope i don't get mmany infections

You found them locally? Great. Golden Teacher (GT) is good.

The three major causes of contamination are:

Improper sterilization of the medium you're growing on. If you're using PF tek, you have to sterilize the jars. If you have a pressure cooker this isn't a problem. If not, you can still sterilize the jars but you should pay attention to the guides you read. Don't try to do it on your own. Boiling for example, is not going to sterilize the jars.

Most contamination is introduced during inoculation. When you are injecting the spores into the jar, you have to be VERY sterile and quick. The needle must never ever touch open air. If it does, use an alcohol lamp or cigarette lighter to make the needle red hot, then cool it down with an alcohol swab. Keep the needle covered with a soaked alcohol swab at all times.

An ineffective filter on the jar is the next reason most people get contaminants. If you've injected the spores without a hitch, make sure the lid of the jar is tight and make sure the filter you put on the jar is secure and works. Don't substitute! If the guide says to use tyvek or polyfill, that's what you use. A cotton ball or coffee filter is not effective for mycological work.

It might sound overwhelming but you really can't fail if you follow the guides.

Right now i have already injected 6ccs into the bag and placed it on heating pad inside a box thats closed so it will stay dark.

after viewing the video is this a good way to grow them with this type of system?

and also there is still 6ccs left in syringe what should i do with the left over syringe how do i keep it good to use?

QD420 - That's a pretty cool system... you should keep us updated on how it's going. At $145 it's a little over-priced but re-fill kits are cheap. I might actually consider getting a setup like this if it fullfills its promise. It said a pound per harvest. Real small space too... I'm liking it.

Hehe... close your eyes and imagine a closet... lined with shelves. Unit next to unit... producing pounds upon pounds every week. All in cycles. Mmm... what a dream.

Shroomery.org has a forum dedicated to grow journals by people who grow magic mushrooms. You need to be logged in on their forum (registration is free) to be able to see it though. You should put the grow-log both here and there. Here for us, and there for tips from the pros.

I wouldn't advise using kits. They basically give you stuff you can buy from Walmart and a gardening store, and charge you triple what they're worth. Making everything yourself is very easy anyway. It basically involves mixing a few common things in a jar, sterilizing the jar and then injecting it with spores.

You can use a lamp to keep them at 80F, if you don't want to shell out $10-20 for a heating pad or aquarium heater.

I tried loads of kits the best kits by far was the MYG kit they use to come with live mycellia and it was a great strain Im so glad I saved my prints as you can no longer get live mycellia . Kits are really no nessary as you can make a kit your self for a feaction of the Shipping cost alone lol. I see 3 rubbermade containers modded a bit like 30 mins max worth the work done to then with a tottal investemnt of $25 dollare that sells for an amazing $500 Cad for the kit. ThatsJust Highway robbery. The only thing I wouldnt recoment doing is trying to find a cheap strain invest in quility spores and syringes. I have links on how to make your own print and syringes any one could do it ... I have a present 3 500 ml jars of LC , and 27 spore prints of that live culture strain I had. . Muyshrooms are very easy and fun to grow they literally grow right befor your eyes . If your planning to eat some shrooms grow them yourself to be safe never eat hand picked oputdoor mushrooms its every dangerous . Best of luck to all of you thats going to grow your own mushrooms . Just ordered my gear/spores wednesday. I bought a MycoKit from University Scientific Corporation along with the humidifier and air exchanger. I'll get an electronic timer from Home Depot when it comes in so it'll be completely automated. You can check them out at http://www.universityscientific.com/. If they are cracker dry (crack when you bend them), then you can store them like you would any other drug. Away from heat/light/oxygen.

You can grind them up and put them in an airtight jar in the freezer. They should keep for years without any lose in potency..

Ground up dry shrooms look like little light brown flakes, almost like flaxseed meal or other supplements. You can put them in capsules and then stick those in a ginseng or other supplement container.

Fresh mushrooms will rot if left out. Freezing fresh shrooms will cause them to become mush when they thaw.. still eatable but will probably be reduced in potency, if not just icky.

Some people like to store them in honey, and then they can eat scoops of honey when they wanna dose. Honey is a natural preservative. Be careful if you go this route. Make sure little kids are away from this stuff.
