bush told to "shut up" over cartoons
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/11251690/
MSNBC News Services Updated: 8:39 a.m. ET Feb. 9, 2006 BEIRUT, Lebanon - Hundreds of thousands of Shiite Muslims transformed a religious ceremony in Lebanon on Thursday into an emotional but peaceful protest against cartoons depicting the Prophet Muhammad. “Defending the prophet should continue worldwide,” Sheik Hassan Nasrallah, the leader of Hezbollah, told the crowd. “Let (U.S. Secretary of State) Condoleezza Rice, (President) Bush and all the tyrants shut up: We are a nation that can’t forgive, be silent or ease up when they insult our prophet and our sacred values.” “Today, we are defending the dignity of our prophet with a word, a demonstration but let George Bush and the arrogant world know that if we have to ... we will defend our prophet with our blood, not our voices,” Nasrallah added. Rice on Wednesday accused Iran and Syria, both backers of Hezbollah and at loggerheads with the West, of deliberately stoking rage among Muslims. Bush urged governments to stop the violence, including attacks on Western diplomatic missions in parts of the Muslim world. Considering any portrayal of their prophet as blasphemous, angry Muslims have demonstrated around the world over the cartoons, first published in Denmark, then Norway and several other countries in Europe and elsewhere. At least a dozen people have died as police broke up several protests. Nasrallah said there would be no compromise before Denmark apologizes and the European Parliament and individual assemblies in Europe pass laws that prohibit insulting the Prophet. The European Union, meanwhile, sought to calm tension, calling for a voluntary media code of conduct to avoid inflaming religious sensibilities. |

I have some, but I don't know if it's ok to post them? I don't want anything weird to happen around here just because I post the cartoons. One of our friends in Denmark sent us some. I've actually only looked at one (guy with half turban, half bomb on his head) but my husband has quite a few on his computer. If any of the Admins/Mods want to let me know if it's ok. (I only ask because the fact that people have died because it was published in the first place...) I'm sure they are on various websites as well, but I haven't checked.
P.S. ROOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOR! (said like hearing goal during a futbol match)

They had an article about these in my little bro's school newspaper. They said some shit about it not being needed in the world and that everyone should just not pay attetion to it. I have no idea what these cartoons are about nor do I care. They are cartoons people why would you kill a man over a cartoon?! I'm so confused.

Bah! A classic cheap media trick to win readership through stirring up shit. Bah! bah!! bah!!! I'm neither pissed off nor am I jumping in joy over the cartoons.
Honestly, I'd be happier if Jyllands-Posten (the Danish Newspaper) printed cartoons teaching me how to grow herb indoors or something like that... Now, I could go on and print an article saying or a cartoon showing that North Korea's Kim Jong Il makes love to shoes. But again, why the fuck would I do that? Who really benefits from all this? I'd rather publish something showing people how to construct shit...like a bong or a trike or something. Fuck, I'm baked... ![]() Last edited by a_-g-_m; 02-10-2006 at 03:05 PM. |
