question for any pharmacists or medical minded people
When I was 16 I tried to commit suicide by swallowing tylenol. Im unsure of the exact number that I took because i eventually lost consciousness, but I know I took 2 of the mini 20 pill bottles, 200mg each i believe, and i took 3/4 of a large bottle, one of the ones with like 200 pills in it or so. I went to the hospital and lied about why i was sick, they put me on an IV for 3 days, and that was the end, i drank a lot of gatorade. Recently Ive been suffering from really bad migranes, its going on a couple months now, that may be totally unrelated, but it got me thinking about what could be wrong with my body, then i found that taking tylenol is....not so good for ur body in those numbers. I want to know basically if I should be seeing a Dr. about this, or if there was anything i could do myself to sorta counteract the effects, BTW, im 21 now. thanks for any imformation you can give me.

some headaches can be caused by liver problems as a result of the liver not removing toxins from the body, your body may be too toxic , and the toxicity may be part of what is causing your headaches...
id get checked out man serriously.. |

Yes, that much tylenol will jack your shi* up. Seriously. Don't do it again, you may not have another one of those in you.
Acetaminophen has two major metabolism pathways and one minor pathway. Your minor pathway (CYP2E1) only kicks in for a few special reasons: 1 - you have too much acetaminophen (or another drug that uses similar pathways) in your system for the only the major pathways alone to handle 2 - you have other substances in your body that induce CYP2E1 (alcohol and a tuberculosis drug come to mind) When CYP2E1 metabolizes acetaminophen (which happens in the liver), it makes toxic molecules that will attack whatever is around them. The liver in this case. This kind of damage is semi-permanent. Especially if you drink, take opiates, take tylenol correctly, etc. It's probably not at all related to your migraines (do you technically have migraines? there are specific diagnostic criteria). I would mention it next time you have a doctor appointment, and maybe your doc will order a liver function panel. They can't always see permanent, past (not actively occuring) damage, but it is good for him to know so that he keeps you far away from drugs that might cause problems. |

You might should get your liver tested, but it's unlikely related to the migraines. I followed this article with my school's subscription, and it described people who already had migraines and were taking the antipyretic after. Not a fabulously controlled experiment, probably not something to worry about. |
