Albert Hofmann the father of LSD dies at age 102

The father of LSD died on Tuesday. His discovery was more than just a chance discovery of a mind-blowing party drug, it changed the way a generation viewed life and the world.

"The U.S. government banned LSD in 1966, and other countries followed suit.

Hofmann maintained that this was unfair, arguing that the drug was not addictive. He repeatedly said the ban should be lifted to allow LSD to be used in medical research.
He himself took the drug -- purportedly on an occasional basis and out of scientific interest -- for several decades.

"LSD can help open your eyes," he once said. "But there are other ways: meditation, dance, music, fasting.

The self-described "father" of LSD readily agreed that the drug was dangerous if in the wrong hands. This was reflected by the title of his 1979 book: "LSD: My Problem Child."

It really wasn't posted as a news item. I saw it mentioned in a thread a few days back, I think there were ten replies.

The guy was a pioneer in freedom and more importantly, freedom of the mind. I just thought he deserved more mention. My first trip was in 1969, and I tripped a few hundred times. I found that eventually I wasn't really enjoying getting shot out of a psychedelic cannon that much anymore, so I stopped. Cannabis is much more relaxing, but acid changed the way I thought forever.

So old news or not, I just wanted to say my thanks to the Doc.

Yeah, like I heard absolutely no like news mention or talking about it or anything, which really irked me. I've only done acid twice now, but it is probably my favorite, and it truly is an enlightening experience.
May Albert Hoffman rest in peace.

Someone can live 102 years just being depressed and lonely. Or someone could live 30 years being happy as hell. I am not saying LSD is dangerous in the least bit, just saying that just because he lived 102 years doesn't mean he was healthy.

.... I'm gonna go out on a limb and say, If you die at 102, you WERE, in fact, quite healthy.

has anyone else realized that deliberate use of LSD in any way possible has only been used for less than 2 generations?
