This is pretty interesting. If I can find seeds for cheap, I might try this. I used to work at Dunkin' Donuts, and they had 5 pound containers of poppy seeds up there. I might swing by one night and try to get one of those .

I'm about too....but I'm sitting here with 1000g of seeds ( they were on sale go figure ) so it cost me like 5$ ....I'm wondering though...is it better to do it in smaller batches or actually like dump the whole 1000g of seeds in and follow the recipe? I'm assuming that after cooking 1000g I'd have a shit ton of opium gunk at the bottom...which would burn off faster than it would with smaller amounts of seeds...any input would be awesome.

I would do all 1000gs at once if you have a pot big enough. You're dealing with pretty small amounts of opiates here, so the more material you use, the higher your yield will be.

Ionce smoked straight up poppy seeds and got high. It was like a weak indica/ hash high. But that was just the seeds i smoked. i cant wait to try the extract. This sounds cool. Oh yes, if its illegal to grow poppies, why then does the Burpee seed co. list oriential opium poppy seeds in their catalog? I think its more likely that its legal to grow poppies if you're not going to make opium from them, but if its opium you want its illegal. The way i see it, plant em outside in a flower bed and the fuzz will just think that theyre ornamental flowers.

Growing opium poppies is definitely an illegal activity, they are one of only two plants originally listed in the drug laws, and only the seeds for the purpose of consumption are exempt. for a while there was a poppy control act but it was repealed when because poppies where already made illegal. They list them in some major seed catalogs but will call them other things, such as the bread seed poppy, papaver paeoniflorum, hens and chicks etc. The oriental poppy isn't an opium poppy, it contains opiate alkaloids, most notably thebain, which is a precursor used by the pharmacutical industry to produce various opiod painkillers. Papaver Rhoes (sp?) is also available comercialy, and is active for those that don't have a tolerance, but arent opium poppies. California poppies and papaver atlanticium (sp?) are also active in there own ways, but are not opium poppies.

This isn't technically opium, and you arnt really extracting anything, you are simply making a dilute rinse of the opium that has collected on the seeds. It isn't really smoke-able, and you don't want to over heat it, the major active component is morphine, which is destroyed at high temperatures, so if you where to scorch or burn this it would destroy a good deal of the goodies. You would be better off drinking it as a tea. Nasty but effective. Be careful though, you can OD on this stuff if you take to much, and it can definitely be addicting. As my name implies I'm a junky, not that I don't like weed, I just love opies, and I know what I love, this is all 100% correct info.

And to the person that asked about flowering poppies, they're the opposite of MJ, they need lengthening days to flower instead of shortening. Try16 hours of light or so and grow them under 11 or 12. Poppies are best grown outdoors though, and don't over water them. They don't transplant well, though it is possible.

You never know, anyone you encounter on the net could be a pig, I'd like to think I can spot them but I can't, they try to blend in as best they can, and seeing as I dont know who the pig is (there is obviously atleast one) it could be anyone. How addicting something is is relative. Opiates can be very addicting if you like them. Some do some dont, those that really love em are fucked though. Unlike cocaine or meth opiates have a hardcore physical WD aspect to them, though the mental part is what gets you anyways. Dont get me wrong WD is absolute hell, but its killer depresion and cravings that kill ya. Depending on how long you've had a habit this can last a week or a couple years. There are people that manage to use opiates speradicaly and not become addicted, but once you've picked up a habit its really hard to do this.

-EDIT- I reread my first post and I did come off a bit formal and arogant. Not my intent, this is just common knowledge amongst my "crowd." Most people really dont know how to take me.
