I think there's a lot of taboos around about picking off your plants, some folk get pretty religious about it, but as I see it, that's what they're for. Especially if it's your first grow, or first grow indoors, and you have nothing to smoke. Gotta have me medicine!
There's been a drought here for ages, and what you can get is not good quality, and almost never grass, which I prefer. I got a clone some time back, and its her daughters that are the main focus of the flowering chamber. The original clone was a skinny, stretchy beast, while her daughters are much more vigorous, stronger. I kept one clone for a new mother plant, and put the old mother in the side of the flowering chamber, just to smoke.
The daughters are juicy and plump and tangy and fruity, and OH MAN! But the scraggly mother, while not as impressive, has a) saved me a fortune these last few weeks (drought leads to crazy prices for pot), and b) given me a good indication of how the daughters will be when they mature.
With maybe three weeks until harvest, and only a few branches left, I don't think she's gonna last the distance, but she's been a great smoke, and those I've shared it with agreed, too - I didn't tell them what it was. There's maybe a half a dozen nugs left on her.
But, I also put a couple of experimental bag-seed Sativas at the side, and they are starting to look highly snipable!
