A local nursery has a 'Russian Broadleaf Comfrey' root-start.

Is the 'Broadleaf' strain okay? I can't imagine that it wouldn't be but I thought it would be prudent to ask.

Thanks!

Re: Russian Comfrey Fert

I only know that the correct strain is Bocking 14. I think you will have to confirm that with your nursery. If they canīt positively confirm it is Bocking 14, then I would order online - it is easy to find.

Re: Russian Comfrey Fert

Hey i live in sunny southern california (mexico border). Am i going to have to keep one of these alive indoors during the winter or are they going to keep living through the slightly cold weather and occasional rain? just wondering if ordering the roots is an annual thing you need to do each season. im trying to be completely self sufficient and im STOKED on making my own organic fert.

gracias

Re: Russian Comfrey Fert

Comfrey is a perennial plant, unlike MJ. In the winter leaves do not appear, but the root remains alive and puts up leaves when the spring arrives. You only have to buy the roots once.

Re: Russian Comfrey Fert

thanks! i figured that was the case when i saw how big the root is

EDIT: i just gathered a jar full of stinging nettle leaves, what a pain in the ass. its a good thing they grow as a weed but still, i'll be ordering the comfreys for ease of broad leaves

I live on a beach, could you do this with sea weed, or just any kind of leaf, i mean they all have something right, i wouldnt do this with poison ivy tho, for obvious reasons.
