I like the little peat pellets for germinating. Just follow the directions on the box.:D I found that more seeds make it to the seedling stage this way than some of the other shenanigans I learned about on pot forums.

i germinate by soaking overnight in water and then putting between sheets of toilet paper, keep warm and dark and usually get 99% germination, unless the seeds came from Greenhouse Seed Company. :(

NOW is the time to prepare your beds though, they need time to settle before you transplant out. it takes time to get the soil in perfect shape, don't wait for the last minute and have uneven soil components.

...put your seeds into something that has no fertilizers, like promix or sunshine mix...the pete pots will work also......get the medium moist and place ontop of a seedling heating mat....let the medium warm up, them bury your seeds 1/4 of an inch.....keep them in the dark until you see them sprout.

...that's some really good soil bro, but roots organics can be a little strong for seedlings.....seeds have all the nutrients they need in the seed to grow a sprout....this is why growers usually use something really lite to start with (like promix, sunsine mix, light warrior)...once the seeds are very small plants, growers usually transplant into something high in nutrients, like Roots Organics, Ocean Forest, exc....again, good luck.

What's your native soil like at the moment? Sandy, clay, loamy, etc, how's your drainage currently? What you amend with may vary depending on your current soil type and structure. However mixing in lots of quality compost is always a good start. Making a raised bed like organicN40 suggested would make a lot of things easier for you. It'll help with drainage and make it easier to mix in compost and other soil amendments.

get a pH test done first on the native soil. you can get litmus paper for less than a dollar and it is good enough. you want to stay between 5 and 6. if high or low, now is the time to add in nutrients to adjust the pH and give the micro critters food .
