Possibly the best funk band you've never heard of..
I'm sure if you listen to funk even in the least bit you've heard Tower of Power. There's a group out of Washington that's got the same setup as Tower(and they originally started as a Tower tribute I think) and they're just amazing. By the way, they're called Doctorfunk..
Too bad there's only one CD out though, its great. Called Prescription for Soul. There's a couple Strokeland Superband covers and the last tune(Livin in Bump City) is a medlee of ~20 Tower songs. I really dig em... you can check em out at www.doctorfunk.com or Strokeland Record's site. Doc Kupka himself endorses em.. so they can't be that bad heh. |
