GrassCity Band

So... I was smoking a bowl, playing guitar, and got this crazy idea. There are several members on GC who play an instrument and have similar musical tastes. Wouldn't it be sweet if we could all jam together and collaborate over the internet?

We should start recording tracks to send back and forth to each other, which we could then add to and build up into full songs. Obviously it would have to begin with drums and bass, and then other members could add guitar and other instruments.

Anyone else want to participate? To start off, we need someone who plays drums or can make drum tracks with a drum machine. If you have a track you want to contribute, post in this thread. It doesn't have to be professional quality, just good enough to listen to without cringing. Then a bassist can come along and record a bass line over it, and I'll be happy to add guitar after that.

Also, we can't limit it to any particular recording software since everyone uses different ones. We won't work on it as an open project file, but rather each instrument will build on top of the existing file. So mp3 or a similar format would be best. Doesn't matter if you have a full home studio or just use a PC mic, or if you use Pro Tools, Acid, Garage Band, Fruity Loops or just a very basic freeware multitrack recorder.... anything will do.

Anyone else interested?

Yes! I play bass, piano, and I can do back up vocals. I have Fruity Loops too.

Look up Kompoz.com and maybe we can get organized on there.

It's the Grasscity band, not Kompoz band.

I would love to participate and contribute some bass parts, but I have no experience recording via computer. If anyone could give me some tips or link to a tutorial or a good program to start with that would be great haha. Even if I don't participate, keep the thread updated as I would love to listen to what you guys come up with!

I thought of this some time ago, but let the idea go just because I wouldn't be able to participate.

I'd honestly love to, but I have no way of recording anything of substance. CS Headset, and a Cell Phone camera, that's it.

Good luck to you guys though, I'll be watching.

I'm not a musician but I'd love to contribute. When you guys get some melodies, may I write some lyrics?

This is a fucking brilliant idea.

I'm teaching myself drums, but I'm learning fast and I'm about to get a free AMAZING electric drum kit. So I may be able to contribute that, or bass, or guitar, or keyboard.

I have access to a recording studio so I can play drums to prerecorded tracks If they're sent to me, and I'm not to bad either.

Okay, sounds like we have a lot of people interested. I'm going to be a bit busy this week, but if someone wants to check out that kompoz site or just post something to get started, feel free to go ahead. Like I said before, we would probably need to start with drums and bass.
