Strictly Instrumental Bands

Hey music lovers, just bored late at night here listening to a song by the band Perpetual Groove called Teakwood Betz. I forget, but somebody here on GC suggested the band and they're great, but I can't stand the singer. This got me to thinking about how much I love instrumental music when I want to chill, and I was hoping somebody could suggest some bands. I generally like rock, from southern to progressive, so if anybody could hook me up with something good, I would definitely appreciate it.

If you're really into progressive/rock and instrumentals, but like more modern groups, try searching the bands "Porcupine Tree" or "Riverside" on Pandora Radio (If you haven't heard of it, Pandora offers you similar music based on how you rank the previous song you heard, narrowing results to your preferred style of music). These two bands have singers, but they actually provide harmony to the music, which can't be said for a lot of modern artists. Plus their instrumental work is outstanding.

I guarantee if you start with these artists, you'll find something you like.

Toubab Krewe... I would classify them as rock, but they also definitely have strong African influences. Guitar, bass, drums, but they also have a kora (21-string harp-lute), kamelengoni (12-string harp-lute), soku (Malian horsehair fiddle), and African percussion. Very unique sound, and they know how to jam.

Cosmic, thanks for suggesting Toubab Krewe, I'm listening to their self titled album right now, really digging it. This is spot on what I was thinking of when I first started this thread. I remember listening to some of these songs in my buddy's car, but never knew the band.

i fucking love you cosmic.

toubab is the sickest live world music band that is touring right now. hands down.

if you like electronic: STS9 (mediocre studio albums, MINDBLOWING live shows) particle (still the best concert ive ever seen) lotus (light and airy, good to study to as well)

Most of Jeff Beck's solo output is instrumental

If you like contemporary jazz instrumental, check out Spyro Gyra. They are mostly sax driven, and have a full sound that may appeal to those who aren't strictly into jazz. If you want to explore jazz, it may be a good place to start.

-Explosions in the Sky
-Godspeed You! Black Emperor (Definitely check these guys out for sure, they'll blow you away.)
-Do Make Say Think (They have some singing on their latest album (You, You're a History in Rust), but their older stuff is strictly instrumental.)
-Sigur Ros

Check out the record label Constellation Records (GY!BE and DMSM are on this label)...it's got some more sweet post rock bands.
