question for bass players

where can i go to get a whammy installed on my bass? where can i pick up a bass guitar with a whammy stock?

ive heard of the trouble with tuning and string breakage when a halfass job is done, so where can i find some quality?

thanks

I'm honestly not sure, my best advice would be to go to the bass department of a major music store near you and see what they say (sam ash or guitar center, something along those lines)

or i'm sure someone here will know what to tell you:

I've yet to actually see/hear that applied yet, though I'm there's more than enough of it and I'm just missing it. Would be wicked.

I wonder if they do it with a floating bridge, or a different system, cause thats a lot of tension to be manipulating...

Go to talkbass.com Huge forums of good players and quite a number of people make their own custom basses there too. Maybe you'll find your answer there because I've never seen a bass with a whammy bar!

what ive been able to find so far-

http://www.musiciansfriend.com/produ...3&src=3SOSWXXA
discontinued

http://www.hipshotproducts.com/cart....oduct_list&c=4
unknown quality so far

http://www.ultimate-guitar.com/forum.../t-288541.html
seems that getting one installed on a bass is questionable, gonna try to find one with whammy sold stock, or else find a reliable place to install one.

will keep updating, let me know if anyone else finds anything

It's a fucking awesome store just to go to, but I wouldn't personally trust them with advice on something like this, in general though. There's no reason there couldn't be an employee who wouldn't have specific, and good, info.

getting a guitar and getting information about a guitar are very different...they have specialists for a reason....granted they'll probably try to sell you something while you're asking but either way you could learn something

yeah it just kind of sucks cuz like ill be jamming with my friends and there will be certain parts where i instinctively reach for a whammy bar, cuz i know EXACTLY the sound i want to make and hammering the notes doesnt quite do it. hopefully someone will be able to help me in this predicament (without it costing $7000 used, the only one i found with a stock whammy lol)

Guitar Center is a fine store if you go in already knowing what you want to buy.
But if you ask them for advice on gear they're probably going to try to sell you a line 6 spider or a marshal MG

You might consider getting a pedal with pitch bend or wah. I see a lot of bands, I NEVER see bass players using a bar. You're supposed to be playing rythm, anyway.

You can't just bend the strings?

Just because you can bend strings doesn't mean you can do everything, infact not even half of what you could do with a trem.

And a wah pedal is no substitute, if he's specifically looking for a trem.

Edit; Also, sticking a base player with just a rhythm job alone is a great way to undermine the music ^^
