Acid is like swimming... if you cant swim, why would you go to the deep end? For example mammaliformes ("almost mammals") and then mammals existed throughout the reign of the dinosaurs, but could not compete for the large terrestrial vertebrate niches which dinosaurs monopolized. The end-Cretaceous mass extinction removed the non-avian dinosaurs and made it possible for mammals to expand into the large terrestrial vertebrate niches. |

LP's
Better sound quality, not to mention I grew up going through my dads old records. Zep 4, Dark Side of the Moon, Machine Head, Tommy....I forget most of them but its basically what introduced me into music.

The only thing I can think of is if you think a piece of vinyl is better than a CD you just done have quality equipment enough to be able to pick-up all the shit coming through that needle LOL...what was that? oh its just a scratch. Shit I remember when I was scared to play my favorite LP too much because I didnt want to ware it out with scratches & shit, a good needle for turntables back then were as much as a portable cd player now'a days. Everything about CD's just blows them old LP's right out of the water.

Think of a CD just as a computer monitor, and a digital image. It's pixelated. There are areas of blankness between to the pixels, or in the case of a CD, the bytes/bits whatever. An LP has an infinately detailed sound reproduction, since the music itself is directly etched in to the material, instead of chopped in to many small chunks and reasembled. Also, with the proper care given to an LP, scratches will not occour. With a good needle, every time you play it, the quality will NOT go down for quite some time. Yes, it may wear microscopic amounts of vinyl off, but bear in mind it does so evenly (again with the proper equipment and a good stylus) so it makes absolutely no difference. Those tones from the album will always be closer to what was actually recorded, have more depth to them, and just have generally warmer, sweeter tones. It's almost like a vintage tube amp vs. a modern digital amp. The vintage tube wins every time.

Just saying that it's worth thinking about means a lot, lol.

CDs win for conveinence, seeing as I can play them in the car or transfer them to my mp3 player to take anywhere.
LPs win for sound quality. If I'm in my bedroom with my record player I'd MUCH rather play Led Zeppelin/Alice Cooper/Jethro Tull/Neil Young from the turntable than my computer speakers. CDs sound sterile, LPs sound warm and inviting. Not to mention I'm really into album-oriented rock and love to listen straight through both sides, which I tend to do more often with records. With cds or files it's too easy to just go "skip". They each have their perks, but LP wins for sound, and sound is most important. ![]() edit: Plus I love the huge artwork on LP covers! Nothing like putting on a record and then sitting back to admire the cover and inner artwork. Last edited by BouncingAround : 04-17-2008 at 09:47 PM. |
