thank you man...i've posted this same shit like 5 times in the music section.

" RAP AND HIP-HOP ARE NOT TWO DIFFERENT GENRES!!!!!

Rap is the verb, it's what you do. Hip-Hop is the music, the culture, the artform of it all.

It's not two separate things....in hip-hop music people rap. Rappers make hip hop.

haha iv been waiting for you to post this

here is a direct quote from your boy KRS-ONE

I'm old enough to remember when gangster rappers didn't want to be labeled as such. I remember when KRS & Tribe & others tried to separate themselves from the MC Hammers & others usually (West Coast artists). "That's Rap. We're Hip Hop."

pwnt3d

i agree with you that hip hop is a culture

and that rap and hip hop share many similarites

but i take offense that you would classify rappers such as

50 cent and the game

in the same category as hip hop artists

such as AOTP, celph titled, and apathy.

i would very much like to argue this with you.

feel free to share your thoughts.

I don't see why people aren't allowed to dislike a particular type of music if for no other reason than it doesn't sound good to them. I find hip-hop/rap/whatever-you-wanna-call-it repetitive and boring. I don't care if there are great hip hop artists out there, that's your opinion.

I agree 100% Listen to whatever you want, whatever floats your boat y'know? I don't really like hiphop but I try not to 'hate on' people that do. If thats what they dig then fair enough, I couldn't care less..

It's more than just a forum.
It's a community.
One that doesn't really need to be split any more than necessary with posts bashing other people's interests.

I like anything with musical value. I just dont understand the value of offbeat rythym mixed with lyrics based almost entirely on what the rapper is wearing at the time. IE:"My watch too sillay, my rings to sillay" Like why do you have to talk about how flossed out you are 24/7. Shouldnt the bling do the talking for itself? To me that type of music is good for one thing, inflating peoples egos. I dunno maybe I just like to relate to my music on a higher level than what material possessions I have.

maybe the people hating on your music just think you suck, and want to convey it to you in a way you'll understand

There's mainstream rap and underground rap, just the same way with ALL music. You can't compare Nickelback to Battles, even though they are both technically "rock" bands. This is the same way you can't compare Black Star to Lil Wayne, or J Dilla to Three-Six Mafia. Please, learn about the music and the CULTURE before saying rediculous things like rap and hip-hop are different genres.
Thank God someone already said it, when will people learn. Rap is a verb, its what you do. Hip-Hop is how you represent yourself, your culture, your life.

For those of you posting rappers only talk about "bling, money, and ho's" turn off MTV and look at real music. By hating an entire genre you are only being ignorant. There is a way to appreciate music and not like it. I can appreciate Rag music (doubt anyone here even has heard of the genre) even though I don't like it.
