Sgt. Peppers...... a god among albums.... a trail blazer

I have been a huge Beatles fan since i knew what music was....

When I first knew what music was is when I was looking through my dad's glove box when he picked me up from my mom's for the first time when I was 5 and asked him about the tapes in there... they were Simon and Garfunkel's Sound of Silence and Parsley, Sage, Rosemary and Thyme...... Patsie Cline (not my fav)....and of course Sgt. Pepper's. That was a rough time for my family and music was my savior.

Sgt. Peppers was one of the 2 first albums I ever owned. The other was Kill 'em All by Metallica. Its easy to see how my musical ear evolved into what it is today just from my first to albums (actually vinyl)...... a hippie who likes hardcore.

We all know the innovation involved in Sgt. Pepper's so that really isn't the basis for my post. I wanted to ask people their best memory of Sgt. Peppers......Could be a song, a situation where it was playing, how it changed whatever...etc....anything.

As big of a fan as I am of the Beatles and Sgt. Pepper's, I only saw the movie just a few days ago. Although I was aware of it. I always thought the Bee Gees were fucking corny (good singers but not my cup of tea) and I was upset that Frampton and the Bee Gees covered all the songs. And I must say, that my reservations were accurate. The movie, even though made in '78, was a joke. Mostly for the careers of Peter Frampton and the Bee Gees. It was slightly funny but mostly dumb. Seeing as Frampton has an amazing voice and the Bee Gees do as well, their combination of sounds came together well on a few occasions. My favorite part of the whole movie is when they elongate the part at the end of 'Being for the Benefit of Mr. Kite', 'She's so Heavy'..... their voices come together to form a great, almost uniform sound with distortion. When they get to the part when they pause for a sec, then come in with.. 'HEAVY!!'...its like a breakdown and it gives me that feeling that only music can give me.

Sgt. Peppers is one of 3 albums I can put on to give me ultimate inspiration. The other 2 are Aenima by Tool..... and Loop by Keller Williams. One thing I am big into right now in MY music is looping. Nothings better than slicing out a killer riff and then hearing it play...then adding to it. In songs I (attempt to) make I use and Ibanez V-series acoustic/electric guitar plugged into a Peavy combo, a Digitech RP100 effects pedal, a Boss 20-XL loop station, Hohner Special 20 blues harmonicas, an old Yamaha keyboard and an even older Pearl 7 piece drum set. Even though the Beatles had 4 members, they sounded like they had an entire orchestra (when they didn't actually have an orchestra).... and one of my favorite artists, Keller Williams plays alone and loops everything. But Sgt. Pepper's climbs above them all, for me. The ability to have 13 songs that all sound like they could be played by 13 different bands in 13 different genres. That is what I strive for. Completely original sounds that inspire new music.

Favorite pepper song, that's like picking the tastiest peach in Georgia, so much to choose. If I have to have a fave, it's a day in the life, it is one of the best pop songs of all time, IMHO. But I love the production sound of within you, without you, and of course the title song. When Ringo sings, good thoughts come into the world.

I was staying in Orillia, Ontario for a summer with friends when I got addicted to the album, my friends played it while we drank and smoked over the summer, and I always associate that music with happy times, and good conversation. Canadians are much more hospitable than the Americans I had always known.

hopefully one day soon I can. my current budget prevents me from owning a device to transfer my saved tracks/loops fom the loop station to my computer. Which also entails a computer program. However, those are next on my list. I would love to be able to get my music out.....and also to not...... its a strange feeling sitting and listening to your own creations with someone else.

the whole album is a masterpiece. I too was brought up musically with the beatles, sgt peppers was played in the womb there's nothing more cheerful like getting better or fixing a hole, nothing more fun than lovely rita. I could go on and on haha

i love fixing a hole. its nothing new that Lennon has a transending voice... but I really love his vocals on that one.

Favorite Beatles song NOT on sgt. Peppers?------ Penny Lane, Elenor Rigby, Yesterday (classic..i love to sing that song), Eight Days a Week (my dads fav...branded in my brain), Let it Be, Helter Skelter and one of my top 3 favorite Beatles songs ever.......While My Guitar Gently Weeps.

This section of the city gets almost no attention, and it upsets me.

Sgt Peppers is by far my favourite album. As for my favourite song I would say A Day in the Life, but the song itself is much more wonderful if you listen to the early studio verson. Where John is giving orders and everyones warming up (see The Beatles: LOVE version), it nearly brings a tear to my eye. To me it brings to earth how mortal the fab four were, and how great they were in their own right.

John even acts like his joking self and counts the song in by saying Sugarplum Fairy, sugarplum fairy.

A beatiful song, from a beautiful album, from probably the greatest band of all time.
