Tosin Abasi is the lead guitarist (8 strings) next to Javier Reyes (8 strings). He's amazing. And this video is actually quite enjoyable to watch. Very Technical Instrumental prog metal. no vocals.

This is my favorite video of all time. The Contortionist are a fantastic band to just zone into. Here's their first ever Music video. Very trippy. The Contortionist, 'Causality' Exclusive Official Music Video Premiere - YouTube
They are some of the coolest dudes you will ever meet if you get a chance. Last time they were in boise, right before the release of intrinsic. Me and a friend hot boxed their van with them and talked about everything from lucid dreams to neat music. Some of the chillest dudes to smoke with for sure.
Gotta love some Periphery!
Periphery - Racecar - YouTube
Another smoke story, but i make sure to smokeout hatt halpern everytime they are here. Showed me some new periphery prepro that didnt make it to the release of periphery 2, and new veil of maya before eclipse was released.
Now for epic prog in the vein of AAL, The contortionist, ect
good friends and the "sister band" of the contortionist
LAST CHANCE TO REASON!!! There tron-esque (lyrically) concept album Level 2. They are in the studio right now working on level 3.

The uk's saftey fire has been tearing it up for over a year and lots of sick tours and the neat release. The vocals take getting used to. but i personally love them now.

Possibly the greatest singer in super progs PROTEST THE HERO dizzing riffage mixed with super vocal melodys.

Devin townsend is possibly one of the greatest musicians i have ever come across. Each release is a whole different genre. Dont let his silly songs names and stuff put you off. It was the dumb reason i never got into him before. But i promise he is a must for your ears.

If you have never heard cynic......... Easily the contortionists biggest influence on the new CD (from my perspective)

Dont get me wrong its still amazing - but some of the songs just dont flow. it made me realize the only reason I listen to btbam is for dan briggs's amazing bass lines.
Bloom is my personal favorite from the album.

ive not heard it yet, but dan briggs is tight at bass. imo i prefer his stuff with the band orbs (plays guitar instead of bass tho), its alot more pop-py, not really metal but more post hardcore, got some guy from fear before on vocals, evryone check them out if you like progressive shit.
