James Cameron's Avatar

Anyone else excited about this movie? It's James Cameron's (director of Terminator, Alien, Titanic) first movie in ten years. Apparently the whole movie is shot is motion capture 3D, but it looks extremely real. It's about humans trying to survive against aliens in space.

I have a feeling this will be THE movie to watch high, taking over for Fear & Loathing.

Not one reply? Really? I'll help this thread out by porting my old one from another forum.

Watch the teaser trailer here.

Written and Directed by: James Cameron

Starring: Sam Worthington, Sigourney Weaver, Michelle Rodriguez, Zoe Saldana Giovanni Ribisi

Release Date: December 18th, 2009

Plot: Sam Worthington plays a paraplegic War Veteran sent as his brother's replacement in the on-going mission to sustain contact with the humanoid species of the planet Pandora, the war-like Na'Vi. Problem is, the Na'Vi will not tolerate humans on their planet. A diplomatic solution lies in the cutting edge science of splitting DNA, bringing the gap between the Na'Vi's and Human's DNA, closer together. By doing so, man kind has created avatars. Living, breathing Na'Vi like creatures in which an assigned human, (Sam Worthington) can control. Sam Worthington starts out on his mission, believing it's claim to be feeding the need for interstellar trade by bridging a gap between the two species. But he soon finds out that humans are wanting to colonize planet Pandora, and lay waste of it's beauty by extracting a very desirable and profitable natural resource. Eventually assimilating into some of the depths of the Na'Vi culture, through his Avatar, Sam becomes intertwined between sides in a raging battle that might very well decide the fate of an entire species, yet alone a planet.

Re: James Cameron's Avatar

I watched the theatrical trailer...I think it looks kinda stupid :P

Too cliché of a scenario in my opinion too. Humans invade island for money, discover creature, try to kill creature, man befriends creature, man vs man&creature, evil man is killed and good man and creature win.

Sounds just like Disney's Pocahontas to me :P

But I"m just really picky on movies lol.

The looks, look quite fantastic IMO. Plot line on the other hand is overplayed.

Re: James Cameron's Avatar

I think it looks alright. Pretty cool stuff but the story has been done a million times. I'll go see it really baked and hopefully it's better that way.

Are you being serious? She's got to be the worst actress I've ever seen. The only role she can play is the cliche military girl.

It looks very interesting to me. I think too many people will be turned off by the art direction though.

Re: James Cameron's Avatar

I won't see it in theaters, but I'll see it eventually, just to figure out how they spent nearly (if not more already. I can't seem to find accurate stats) 300 million dollars on this film....

Re: James Cameron's Avatar

If you were to watch the trailer for Terminator 2, you'd get the impression the movie is about two robots fighting it out by all means necessary, with one protecting John Connor, and the other one trying to kill him. We all know there was much, much more depth to that movie than robots fighting it out over John Connor. I don't see how you guys can make such definite judgments as to the integrity of the story based off a 3 minute trailer. Just saying.
