Well I started scouting out materials and came across this rather large PC at Fry's Electronics. I nearly got a hard on when I saw the features and the size of the computer casing. Beautiful... Anyway...I plan on this being an online grow journal from start to finish since it is my first grow. I figure the more constructive criticism (I'm sure there will be a lot considering my level of knowledge) I get the more I'll learn from this. I'm so stoked. Pic1: shows the humongous fan (there are like 3 more inside) all of which are controlled by.... Pic2: ...the dimming fan controls on the top front part of the computer... Pic3: This is the front of the computer with the door open. Pic4: From the side Pic5: From the back other side. I'm going to black out that window and the whole computer comes in black (I just used the white one to show the shape.). I put some chapstick by it's side so you can see how big this computer is. Stay tuned... I'm excited.
lol a nzxt nice, i just built a computer for my friend with this case big enough to start anything off
222 x 540 X 623 mm. The one shown here comes with 1x200mm fan and 3x120mm fans which is perfect because based on the size of this thing I want to do 3 solid sized plants at a time with a mini hydroponic setup. I'll have 3 of the 120mm fans pointed at the plants while the 200mm one will be fanning them from above. Either that or I can setup 2 plants and use that front space as an exhaust area with carbon filter instead of gutting the metal structuring out. What you guys think?
Sounds good, gonna have an exhaust fan or just gonna have it as a passive exhaust? http://forum.grasscity.com/do-yourself/273604-small-carbon-filter-diy.html (Might like this)
I'm thinking an exhaust fan with a nice DIY carbon filter. 2-3 plants shouldn't really smell that bad, but just in case. Especially if I'm going to have a front mounted exhaust fan I will need to do a carbon filter. I'm also planning on taking the existing side panel that you remove and riveting some hinges on the front portion inside of it and then throw on a nice little locking mechanism in the rear part. Oh man I'm getting excited thinking about it. As for lighting I'm debating between budget CFL's or quality LED's. Hmmmmmm......how crazy do I want to get?!
I hear ya, this shit is addicting. All i can ever really think about now is new things to do with my box or how im going to be build my next box. Im going to be making one of those filters as well, my only problem right now is trying to find fans for the wooden box im going to build, box will be like 16 sq ft. Thinkin 2 or 3 200mm computer fans, one's im looking at move 166.2 CFM each. Thinkin maybe just 2 should work.
toxic... go with a 4 inch inline duct fan from home depot they are about 20 bucks then you will need the cord and stuff but it wont require a wire stripping tool or anything.. just some of those wire nuts. i made one last weekend for the box that i am workin on 30x18x48 in inches... the fan was completely silent and actually had a good amount of airflow... and back to the main topic... ya i got a cmputer case wit a big 240 MM on top and when you turn those things on high... wow can they get air movin ha... but i would say if your going to be using anything that will be creating much heat in there... the big 200 or whatever it is should be the exhaust cuz hot air rises looking forward to seeing how this goes
I saw these for sale online ... im thinking of just making my own because I have a full tower case ... and I can get nice size lights pretty cheap.
Didnt even know those existed, thanks alot yo, been wondering how im going to attach a filter, now i know lol
no problem man they are in a green and blue box at home depot... i chose this fan also because there are lots of ways to put a carbon filter on something like this... if you need those pm me
I was thinking about that....If I go CFL or LED (which I'm planning on at the moment) I really shouldn't have a problem with heat. That fan on top is so big that it would just be easier to cover it up and let the stale air circulate within than to rig a carbon filter for it at that location. But I do need to figure which point I'll have the exhaust fan with carbon filter. I like that I'll have the dimming option with all my fans. Maybe I can even have an internal air filtration system and leave out the exhaust entirely.
Whats funny is i sit at work wishing i was at home the whole time so i could work on my box and plants but when i get home i work on em a little and look at em but then get high and don't do a damn thing. lol.
Do you have any pictures of this build? LMAO I've seen you working on that thing for hours at a time.
in my opinion i would just filter the exhaust and put a filter(panty hose) on the intake.. the panty hose on the intake will increase the life of your carbon filter on your exhaust... but putting a carbon filter on your circulating fan seems to be a waste
Things to figure out: -Miniature hydroponic grow or Coco grow? -LED's or CFLs (what wattage?) -Do I want any additional lighting? -The air filtration system -2 plants or 3? I'm stoked. ^Help me out here. I was thinking of just letting the intake stay natural.....have the air just seep in through the natural existing cracks. As for the exhaust would it be bad to have a stand a lone carbon filter with an attached fan of course just chilling inside the computer while circulating the exhaust air inside the pc? In other words instead of letting the air out just let hit the canopy of my plants instead of being pushed out the side of the computer?
subbed. Got my own ghetto CPU going now, 2nd go-round. Smaller box from free stuff on CraigsList. My 1st time was in soil (1pt. Ben/Jerry's cups). I started with 3 bagseeds, they all turned out female, and they fought each other something fierce for the light (78W CFL). Ended up giving two away and LST'ed the crap out of the third. Suffered an almost catastrophic failure on a 3-day vacation in early flower. She stretched into the lights in an attempt at pleasure-induced self immolation. Ended up pruning off 60% of the bud sites and nursing her through to finish with 14 heady grams. Now I have one clone of known genetics (cheese). She's in a 1L. Air Pot with my own custom coco blend (75/20/5 coco/perlite/worm castings) with a TBS or so of lime. Fed grow big amended with epsom for veg. Currently flowering with CNS17 bloom for coco. She's living large. My goal is .75g/watt, or 58.5g. I guess my advice would be if you're going to grow more than one plant in such a small space, prepare to aggressively deal with the plants' struggles against each other for the lion's share of the light. I ended up with one fairly happy plant and two scraggly alternates. All three suffered. When I narrowed the field to one plant she LOVED all the attention. Have fun and Good Luck! I'll be lurking...
HyEbrid, dude I kow EXACTLY what you mean by addicting. I started my 2nd grow inside my pc case with 4x26w 6500k CFLs with ONE seed. In the past week or so, I have pondered, searched, gotten high, searched and pondered some more on how I could improve the case and everything. I live in a 1 bedroom loft with my girlfriend and she says im obsessed and what not as lol. Although, I now see her constantly looking at the plant all the time now seeings that it's got leaves now haha. ANYWAYS...being as addicting as this is. I don't know if this is in your budget or if you have room for it, but this is where my grow is at now. I purchased this tent a few days ago and am waiting on it now. [ame=http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0029AHPRA/ref=ox_ya_os_product]Amazon.com: Secret Jardin DarkRoom II Pro 60 - 24 x 24 x 64 Inches: Patio, Lawn & Garden[/ame] It's 2x2x4~ feet and has hooks, vents etc for everything you need. I bought this for multle reasons: Discreet stealthy look No light leakage Holds probably 4 plants Gives enough room for my 250w MH/HPS Bigger area = bigger yield Now as far as your debate goes on hydroponics or coco, I can't say much for coco because I've never used it, but I know people like it. But let me throw the idea in there to start using some good soil. I say this because I started this pc grow like i said, in a pc and in a mini hydroponics setup. My first grow was in a rubbermaid 10gal grow tub hydroponics setup. BUT when I went and bought some Fox Farm Ocean Forest soil and transplanted my girl, she took to it right away and EXPLODED in growth. I know hydroponics is suppose to grow quicker, but from what I've seen, the 1-2 weeks I had the seedling in the hydro setup it barely grew. And now, the seedling has been in the soil for 5 days now and has already grown more in these past 5 days then it did in the 2 weeks in the water. I don't know, of course it's to each is own, but just letting you know what I've experienced in the past few weeks. I'm looking forward to pics of your plants throughout this grow. Defiantly subbing to this. Hope Ive helped out at least a little or if I haven't, I hope I've given you an interesting high read. HAHA Take care, and good luck on your grow!
