Illinois Medical Marijuana
http://www.ilga.gov/legislation/bill...5&SessionID=50
If you google the topic "Illinois Medical Marijuana" or a term of that nature, you will find that this law has about a 2:1 of citizens in this state supporting the law, and most news agencies in the state have made it seem like this law will be introduced very soon. That being said, there is a part of the law that deals with "non profit dispensiaries(sp?)." Basically to me that would be a compassion club type thing. I was wondering if any other states that have parts of the their laws addressing compassion clubs have had success in the formation of them around the state. Do the compassion clubs seem to operate successfully when following the state codes to the letter? Also, if anybody is interested in browsing through the proposed law, do you see anything that you might think would be a potential problem with the law? How does it compare to other state laws? Better or worse? I've browsed a few laws from other states and this law seems like it clearly spells out how medicinal marijuana is to be used and obtained, ect. ect. Also, I saw nothing about convicted felons not being allowed to be medicinal marijuana patients. Knowing the way states treat felons, I was curious to know whether or not any convicted felons had any trouble getting marijuana cards in "legal" states. Does the health concerns outweight the crime concern? Thanks in advance for any help with these questions I have, as I do not have the luxury of living in a state as tolerant as California or a country as tolerant as Canada. |

There is one problem... http://www.mpp.org/IL/
It appears that the senate let the bill die without even voting. So basically, for the year, (or so I understand from the article) the bill is dead. Don't know anything else about your other questions though, but it seems medical mj isn't going to happen just quite yet for IL. Heres the article, so you don't have to click the link Medical marijuana bill stalls in Illinois Senate Last updated March 6, 2006 Despite more than 2-1 public support for medical marijuana legislation, endorsements from reputable health organizations, and an inspiring committee victory, there was not enough support among legislators to pass Sen. John Cullerton’s (D-Chicago) medical marijuana bill, S.B. 2568, last week. This is a disappointment for seriously ill Illinoisans — who will likely have to wait another year to be protected from arrest and prison — but the fight to protect the state’s medical marijuana patients is not over. If you’ve already taken action to get us this far, thank you; but don’t forget that there is more work to be done. Please click here to send a letter-to-the-editor to your local papers, expressing your displeasure that so many lawmakers are out of step with the public on this issue. Our automated system will easily allow you to send a letter to newspapers in Illinois. It takes only a few moments, but it can make a world of difference. Feel free to draw from the talking points that we have provided, but remember that a personalized letter is more likely to be published than a form letter. The Illinois Senate Health and Human Services Committee triumphantly passed S.B. 2568 in a 6-5 vote last month, marking the first time a medical marijuana bill has passed a committee in Illinois in recent years. Sadly, however, this victory was short-lived, as the Senate failed to pass the bill before last week’s deadline to vote on Senate bills during the regular session. But the committee win is a tremendous step forward, putting MPP in a great position to move medical marijuana legislation even further next year. Earlier this year, Rhode Island became the 11th state to protect medical marijuana patients from arrest and incarceration. It’s time for Illinois to follow suit. Polls consistently show massive public support for this issue; in fact, a new statewide poll by Anzalone-Liszt Research, Inc., found 62% support for medical marijuana legislation. We can show legislators that protecting medical marijuana patients isn’t only the right thing to do; it’s also politically popular. Thank you for supporting the Marijuana Policy Project.
