Re: Medical Marijuana for Bi-Polar Disorder?

The best piece of advice I ever have recieved from a medical professional was that I must experiment with my own treatment. Bipolar, unlike many other maladies, is a thing completely individual. What works for one bipolar is not going to work for everyone. For me, the meds I have been put on thus far have been completely incompatable with life.

I have explained my fears about pills to my drug centre shrink and the fact that I won't give up on the knowlege that MMJ helps me. He has prescribed just a mood stabaliser, depakote, to try and stabalise the mood swings, but his only piece of warning on MJ was that it is carcinogenic. Finally, a shrink I can work with...

Well it should sound like someone who has experienced the negative effects of nearly 10 different psychiatric medications firsthand.

In my circumstances it has helped (along with MMJ of course). BUT YOUR MILEAGE WILL VARY. As with everything.

Of course there are BAD psychiatrists just as there are bad doctors out there. BUT to disregard an entire practice of medicine that has shown that it assists people is extremely disingenious. Perhaps it doesn't help you, that's fine. BUT that doesn't mean that others don't get results.
Haha, well I was slightly joking when I called psychiatrists evil. I agree that some medications for certain individuals can be extremely beneficial. Still, I find the entire pharmaceutical establishment to be flawed.

Lexapro isn't as bad as some of the others. I used to take it when I was in highschool.

I'm not feeling real comfortable with this psychiatrist either
BBC NEWS | Americas | US major held after base shooting

Its important to find a doctor you feel comfortable with and can work with, who knows how to balance the benefits and side effects of the various meds, esp. if you require multiple medications.
If they are not listening, not allowing you to take an active part in your care, and they dismiss your complaints and concerns, it may be time to consider finding a new doctor.
Its your health, and you deserve to be treated as a valued, unique individual with specific needs and responses-not just someone who goes in once a month to get pat on the head and a script for whatever the drug rep is pushing currently.
