Dumb Question.

Yea, so I was in class today and somehow the legalization of marijuana came up, yay something I knew about apposed to simple polysaccharides lol. Anyways it boiled down to the teacher telling us that the only reason why some states have a medical marijuana program is because they take out the "harmful" ingredient, the THC. Now, my understanding of the plant may not be complete, but isn't the THC the vital part to the medical benefits of weed? Idk, his statement didn't make sense to me.

Please, Please, PLEASE, print up at least the "THC section" of my "Granny Storm Crow's list" and give it to him! Show him that THC IS medicinal! The "Chemical composition section" wouldn't be bad either!

And THC most definitely is in medical cannabis (although it is not the only medicinal cannabinoid). "Medical" cannabis is merely high quality, dried cannabis flowers- no chemical processing whatsoever beyond drying and aging! Some seed producers actually give an (likely inflated) estimate of THC content for their strains.

The federal government's "Compassionate use program " goes to great lengths to make sure that the cannabis that they supply is exactly the same potency (total schwag! ) They grind up stems, seeds buds and all, extract the THC (perhaps this is where he got the mistaken idea from). BUT then they spray the amount of extract back on the THC-less plant material to bring it up to their standard THC level. (You can run the search for the details on that. It was in Yahoo news not too long ago. )

ive seen movies where they show the joints and shit that come in the cannister and i was like wow shocking the gov't grows shitty weed, but i ahd no idea they extract the thc, wouldnt they think hey the less smoke you have to inhale the healthier so lets make this weed strong so they only have to smoke 2 or 3 hits of a joint to feel relief instead of 2-3 joints to feel relief...

but the herb its self with out the thc might have some medical influence on the illness.
but clubs dont sell none THC weed cus thc is what illegal not the plant just the THC. so if u put two and two together the THC is the cure to the illness. not so much the herb.

They do extract the THC in some ways, but they don't sell the bud without THC. THC is the active ingredient in weed. It's where weed's medicinal value comes from. Without THC, it would be like smoking a hemp plant.

88.5, Time for a little education! Please read a few articles from the section of my list on "Cannabidiol/CBD" (linked below). CBD is a very potent healing cannabinoid, but won't get you high. It is found in fiber and seed hemp, so smoking (or better yet, vaporizing) hemp CAN have a medicinal effect.

The cannabis plant produces a precursor chemical that is, according to the plant's genetics, changes into either THC or CBD. (Study is in my "Chemical Composition" section- some really interesting stuff in there!) Both are healing cannabinoids, but they work in the human body in very different ways. (I'm rather curious- what would the precursor chemical do if you vaped it or made an oil for medical use?)

Because of our fondness for THC, combined with the ease of testing for THC (smoke it and if you get high, you keep the seeds. If not, it's chicken food.), we have just about bred out the genes for CBD from "smoking" cannabis! That is a huge mistake when considering the medical uses of cannabis.

To test for CBD levels is far more difficult- for any sort of consistancy, you need sophisticated scientific equipment. That is a big shame, CBD can treat colitis, neurodegenerative disorders, diabetes-induced neuropathy, and is an antipsychotic. You know how newbies sometimes have panic attacks? Well, the lack of CBD in "smoking" cannabis is part of the problem! CBD will be way more popular with Big Pharma, since it doesn't get you high, just calmer, as well as treating many conditions with zero side effects.
