Does cannabis help with addiction?

My uncle's an alcoholic and I wanted to know if cannabis could help with his addiction. I had read somewhere that it helps with addiction but I wasn't sure

Although it probably would help, its never good to use another substance to replace the other. It's very likely that he will become dependant on Marijuana if he tries this route. I know people are going to try to say that is impossible or w/e cause there in fairly land, but it is possible and likely in this situation.

Even though you may be right, he would be moving onto a MUCH safer substance that could possibly save his life threatening alcohol addiction. The good outweighs the bad.

Re: Does cannabis help with addiction?

Yeah but I'm just saying the safest way is to stop using substance's period. The reason is people who get addicted to something, have an addictive personality which means he would probably abuse the Herb. You are right in that it is safer, per-say. But I'm just saying to stop entirely for the best results.

Re: Does cannabis help with addiction?

Bud doen't have addicting things in it, people become dependent on it that is why we see allot of people continue to smoke. But I've heard from a doctor that, smoking marijuana reduces that urge for drinking.

One of the California Stone Soup members runs a Harm Reduction program for homeless people in San Francisco. They help them get a med card then give MMJ to those in the program. This helps them to move from alcohol to cannabis. Cannabis is not addicting. It seems cannabis is a gateway from dangerous and addictive substances to safer and healthier alternatives. This works better than just a cold turkey detox and has lasting benifits. I want to see her work published as it turns addiction treatment on it's head. BTW I once ran a detox program some years ago. This is better.

Re: Does cannabis help with addiction?

i would think the cannabis allows you to be able to tolerate the withdrawals from whatever substance and then kicking cannabis is...well easy

Re: Does cannabis help with addiction?

Marijuana is obviously much better to be dependant on than alchohol. Alchohol is one of the hardest drugs out there.

Wish I could get my dad on that program, he's not really an alchoholic, because it doesn't affect his life negatively, but he drinks way too much and I worry about his health, him being almost 60 and all.

I'd love for my dad to spend his golden years puffing on a joint with me and my brothers, who all smoke, than see him drink more beer.

Hope you can help your uncle out, with any luck he'll be thanking you in the years to come

Keep blazing

Re: Does cannabis help with addiction?

There was just an article in the last Cannabis Culture about weed and addiction...it was really interesting. It sounded like weed can help a lot of people out suffering from addiction to hard drugs.

Re: Does cannabis help with addiction?

i used to smoke and drink way too much. i am an alchoholic. i haven't had a drink in over eight years. the amount of weed i smoke today, would, to most people, seem like a waste. i toke out of a one hit pipe,
only in the morning and only once or twice a week. i sometimes go for days without blazing. i didn't toke for over a month to pass a drug screen for a job.
usually one or two hits is all it takes, and i am very selective about when and with whom i get high. early in my sobriety i didn't smoke at all cause i didn't want to just substitute one crutch for another. after some clean time i was able to control and enjoy my consumption with none of the deadly side effects of alchohol.

it ain't what you do, it's what you do after you do it!!
