ADD flare up!

Okay, I've self-diagnosed myself with A.D.D. I don't think my case is extremely serious or intense, but I do show most of the symptoms. I remember the first time I smoked pot (May of 2002) I was amazed that "all the brain chatter stopped."

Well, I havn't smoked anything for 4 or 5 days now, and I've noticed an abundance of scattered and random thoughts and that they're making it harder for me to get to sleep. Two nights ago I blamed it on too much caffiene, but yesterday I had the same problem sleeping and didn't have any more coffee then I usually have in a day (about 20 oz.), nor any other caffinated substances.

A prime example of these random thoughts is from last night, I was lying in bed, listening to my internal brain chatter dialog and, suddenly, out of no where, comes the word "Cracker!" That's it. Nothing attached to it, no thoughts pertaining to it preceeding or following it, just "Cracker!" Talk about random.

no offense bro but i have add, or atleast i had add (doctors say you grow out of it when you become a adult) and nothing your talking about has to do with add, random weird thoughts in your head isnt add. add is attention deficit disorder, meaning its hard for you to stay focused on certain tasks for long periods of time such as work or homework ect ect... If your concerned i suggest you go see a doctor, cause from someone who has been diagnosed with ADD it dosent sound to me like you have it.

Also keep in mind add is one of the most overdosed things in the medical world, nowadays anytime a kid dosent feel like doing his homework or gets in trouble for talkin in class parents just start yellin out that they got add which defintally aint the case.

there are different aspects of ADD. It sounds like youve got the pure ADD side of the disease. Thread starter and i have hardcore 'ADHD' symptoms. we have the hyper activity and 'brain chatter' (its a good description). im diagnosed and treated for ADHD/ADD & Clinical Deppression, and what was prolly bipolar is gone too (i knbow bi-polar is a form of depression, but the hyperactivityt stopped ad is gone mostly with treating depresion (think anti-deppresants.). then it went all away with the ADHD meds. And then weed made me become consious of who i was and i became much more introverted, quiet, and calm, just in general. [and the high was an acivity that was fun and harmless ])

See, now, I thought that ADHD was accompanied by a high level of physical activity. I have a high level of mental activity, my brain can go in "a million directions at once," as they say, but physical activity has never been very becoming on me.

Anyway, all that brain chatter makes it very hard to concentrate. Thankfully, weed has a wonderful way of turning all that brain chatter off, or a at least down, which lets me concentrate on one thing.

I'm the same way. It's true, when you're coming down from a smoke (which can be a few days if you smoke every day...), weed does bring you down. Not really depression but it makes me more mellow. I used to be a lot fucking crazier when I didn't smoke too though, so I think it's just my old hyper mother fucker self coming back.

i have the same prob with my son. his teacher thinks he may have add or adhd. i have a prob with this. at home he's fine. at school he's acting out. a totally diff. kid at home. idk, it concerns me with the teachers wanting to assume it's add. i've made an appointment with the doc, and even if he is add, there is no way he is goin on meds. i think it's a quick fix. they are to quick to give these youngins drugs to keep them calm so the teachers can handle them. maybe some do need the meds more than others, idk much aboot it yet. but i'm not havin my 6yr old boy dazed out all day to please the teachers. he's a boy for cryin out loud!!!! sure he has alot of energy, but i think there are alot of methods and tools to use to help them other than drugs.

i was digonosed with add like 9 years ago so i know alot about it. I agree 6yrs old is way to young to be putting your kid on meds but when your kid gets older say junior high age i suggest you highly highly consider medications because they do help ALOT, a simple pill can be the difference of your son getting a great education and making it into a top college or your soon struggling by in school and not getting the education he could have. Also most people grow out of add once they become an adult so its not like he has to stay on meds his whold life. If you have any questions or anything feel free contact to me like i said i have alot of knowledge on this subject. I personally think once your kid is old enough to where school really matter i think you should put him on meds because it really does help.

Also another concern you seem to have is your son being dazed out all day, that isnt the case. When i was on medication i never felt dazed or anything like that, in fact the only difference i could tell is i was able to focus on things alot better and i was able to not get sidetracked as easily. I was still just as loud and hyper as allways but i was able to stayed focused and learn when i needed too. Just because it calms your kid down dosent mean it makes him dazed, did you know alot of kids on add will be given coffe because all the caffeine actually calms them down instead of making them hyper. Thats what add medcine does as well, if you give add medcine to a regular person its like giving them speed they will start jumping off the walls and talking a thousand words a minute but if you give it to a kid with add it makes them able to focus on things such as school work and it actually calms them down a little.

edit: im sure your concerns are the same as most parents, if your son does have add you should try to find a add specilist in your area so you can sit and and discuss your worries with them and they can help answer any questions you might have. Also one thing you might want to consider is add is one of the most overdiagnosed disorders in the usa, alot of times kids are just natrually hyper and doctors will miss diagnose them because they dont know enough about add thats why i suggest you check out a add specialist, someone who really knows about that subject.
