Obama plays down overwhelming support for Marijuana.

In his response to the number one question concerning American's, only a one sentence reply was given stating "President-elect Obama is not in favor of the legalization of marijuana". Not only was the response short, it was also bumped down the line to appear as if not important.

There will be another round of "Open for Questions" soon, and we should simply overwhelm them with our votes. let's make this something that cannot be ignored.

I don't know why everyone is surprised by this. Obama is not going to be the man to legalize marijuana, he's said so himself. He has also said that he'll try to stop government raids and fully supports MMJ.

I think if anything, people should be pushing for nationwide MMJ, that's the next best thing to legal.

He's not going to. He publicly admitted to wanting to stay away from the legalization issue and I believe his almost exact words was that he could not support the legalization.

He's a politician, of course he can't support the legalization. It would destroy what's left of his public image. (< I'm not insulting him)

It's not surprising, he's was running to be President, he has done a lot of things along the way to cover his own ass, which is very smart. By choosing to support marijuana legalization he would be alienating too many people, and he can't and won't do that.

In the end, he's just trying to keep his job and he's smart enough to know when to keep his mouth shut and on what issues.

Marijuana legalization is a very contrevercal subject, and while I support it 100%, I'm not a big name politician, and if I was, with the control and people being how they are, I can't say that I would be supporting the legalization of it at this time either. Who knows, he may make a lot of changes and he's in a position to educate a mass amount of people, I would be taking advantage of that situation and educating people, but until a change in the social conscisousness changes from that of MJ being horrible and danger to it being helpful and having a medical purpose, that's when it will be legalized. Until then, it just ain't happening.

Plus, Obama has so MUCH bigger fish to fry right now, let him do that and see if he's successful, if he is and gets elected to a second term, bother him about it then, more likely to get something done.

i like your enthusiasm OP, but like whiskey said, i highly doubt legalization will occur with president elect obama. we should be pushing for decriminalization, rather than the stretch of legalization. either way +rep for making this thread one of your first.

Exactly. The medical marijuana laws were a huge step in basically legalizing the substance. The longer the laws exist, the more lenient they will become until just about everyone will be eligible. The herb can help everyone, whether they know it or not. Nationwide MMJ is what we should be fighting for. The more people see the sheer beneficial nature of it, the more it will become accepted. As far as I am concerned nationwide MMJ would be as good as legalization.

I've been pondering the question of legalization for some time now... In Canada I pay pretty good prices for my green but for cigs... $10 a pack easy. If mary jane was legalized I'd likely be paying $20 per gram of less than stellar weed. I think decriminalization would be a nice first step... see how it goes. I'm certain if our government would legalize, they'd tax the shit out of it and I'd be even poorer than I am now...but it'd be legal Wonder what Obama will do.
