OCBC Card vs. State Card

I was wondering what are the differences between ocbc card and ca state card.
I assume the state card is better but in what ways and how can it benefit me more than the ocbc card.
Just trying to find out if it is worth $150 for the state card.

Also i was wondering if you sign up for a state card with your county, that basically means they know that you have mmj lisc. and might possibly be growing. Would/could they come search and make sure you are doing everything according to limits by the county? I dont know if i would want police officers knowing everything about who has mmj. I dont trust the police at all, almost all of them dont like mmj and will do anything they can to bust a patient.

Re: OCBC Card vs. State Card

On paper, there really is not much of a difference between the State and the OCBC (now known as the PIDC) cards. LEOs are supposed to recognize the State cards, but they can still arrest you if it looks like you're abusing the system. As far as them coming to your house to look at your grow-op, no this won't happen. Unless you're planning on having some huge underground grow-operation, you have nothing to worry about. The feds are only after the bigger fish.

IMO, it's not worth the time and money. They take like 2 weeks to mail you the card, and they cost way more. When I went to the Patient ID Center in Oakland, it was only $35 and the card was printed that same day.

Re: OCBC Card vs. State Card

Thanks westcoast,

So say if i ever need to show a police officer my ocbc card do they, or should i say are they suppose to, recognize it as a legal documentation that i have mmj? The main thing i was thinking of is that police officers wont see it as legit. And what if i happen to be in LA or nothern cali and want to visit a dispensary, will they take an ocbc card?

Re: OCBC Card vs. State Card

It's dispensary dependent. If they can verify your patient status, you should be fine.

Police officers are all subjective as well. Depening on how cooperative you are when you get stopped and what you were doing, you could either be looking at nothing or jail time depending on how much they want to be a prick. Of course if you are ticketed and have your meds confiscated, you'll get them back in court.

Re: OCBC Card vs. State Card

Remember, both of these cards are strictly voluntary. All we patients need are our doctor's recommendation and our California ID. If your doctor has 24-hr verification services, then you're going to be fine. My doctor doesn't, which is why I got the OCBC card in the first place. So I can be verified at any given time. But as stated, cops themselves are subjective. It's up to them to decide whether or not to bring you in, even if you do have the card.

As for being in SoCal, I'm not totally sure. I've heard they don't accept the OCBC card, but they just opened up an office in Los Angeles, so maybe they're making the transition? But like I said, all we need is our doc's rec and Cali ID...
