There seems to be a link between yeast overgrowth in the body and a multitude of health disorders. When at the Chiropractor the other day, one of the nurses also mentioned a book, "The Fungus Link." (Her sister has Crohn's she said.)

I would love to try the SCD diet, but it would be very hard to follow for me. With Diabetes, I need some "quick carbs" sometimes to raise my bloodsugar. I also have fish/seafood/tree nut allergies and I noticed those are used quite a bit in the diet.
How in Gods name can anyone with Crohn's follow a menu that has nuts on it?!?! Anytime I even smwll a pecan, cashew, or my beloved pistachios I have writhing cramps and shit water for days. Nuts? Love 'em but can't go anywhere near 'em!

Sadly, everyone's body is different. I know a few people with UC and Chrones that can tolerate milk, as for me I CERTIANLY cannot.

Oh great! Pred makes my bloodsugars high and my Diabetes harder to control. Not sure how long I can be on this stuff. Damn, I needed something though. My hands and wrists are to the point I can't move them anymore. Friggin' hell.

Is it weird that I don't get the munchies very much when I smoke? Maybe its just the weed I have right now?

Man, I sure can't have nuts. I go into shock if they even touch my lips. I feel queasy just looking at them and can't stand the smell if I'm in the same room. SCD diet would be impossible for me to follow too.

Funny you mention the milk thing. I had been avoiding milk for about a week or so just to see what would happen. Last night, I decided to have a bowl of cereal before bed. I had only been going once in the morning, and last night after the cereal & milk I had to get up twice to go.

That's very true, I'm lucky enough to be able to tolerate most dairy without a problem. I'd almost rather be able to eat my pistachios though

And I'd like to put in a big thanks to all of you again for pumping up this thread as much as you have. It's helped me more than you could imagine with my depression...

Nice to see others take an interest too. Isn't it scary how many people seem to know someone with Chrone's/UC/IBS? It's almost like its an epidemic now practically.
Yep, the numbers are growing daily. What's more interesting is the fact that it's nearly unheard of to have Crohn's/UC/IBS in developing or third-world nations. The diseases are mainly found in developed countries, which suggests to me that we're doing something to trigger this.

Re: Crohn's Patients

Hi everyone. I am looking to you crohns sufferers to help me out here. I am 19 now i have had stomach problems since around second grade. When i was younger it mostly only affected me in the mornings, i would wake up with unbearable cramps and diarhea every morning. I told my doctors then and they always wrote it off as childhood stress.

In sixth grade i had appendicitis and had to have surgery to remove my appendix.

In the last few years the problems have been getting much worse, i wake up every other hour of the night with unbearable stomach cramps and diarhea, i never have an appetite and if i try to eat i can only take a few bites before i feel unbearably full and sick. I have diarhea that lasts all through the day and it is extremely mucusy on bad days, sometimes looking like all i have eaten is my own mucus. Also recently i have been have bad pain in the joints of my neck and back that grows stronger during my stomach cramps and diarhea and what not. I am extremely sensitive to heat now, if i am in an overly hot room or anywhere really it is a sure trigger for mroe cramps and pain. When i do managa to get some sleep i always sweat so much that i wake up drenched.

since my doctors never took me seriously enough i have never had any perscriptions for ym problem, i have used all sorts of stomach ache aids and antacids none of which do any help.
The only thing that i have found to help is marijuana, it gives me my appetite back and then some, it immediatly stops stomach cramps, it decently controls my hot flashes and sweats, and most importantly it makes it possible to sleep on most nights.

so for all of you who know much more about these stomach issues than i, help me out and tell me what ya think

You need to see another doctor, go to your primary care physician and tell him/her that you need to see a GI specialist. It sounds like it could be something like Crohn's or UC, but it could also be IBS too. A doctor is going to be the only person who can tell you for sure (or kind of sure, on my medical records it still says "probable Crohn's" because my biopsies didn't have a conclusive answer). One thing you said made me take notice: the back and neck pain. Everytime I flare, my lower back starts to kill me, I'm guessing because of the inflammation in that area. On the other hand, back and neck pain is pretty common and can be caused by a lot of things.

Keep smoking and see a doctor! I sincerely hope you don't have any of these diseases. Good luck!

Re: Crohn's Patients

ill be smoking before class tommarrow, which i dont really like doin b/c of police and teachers and what not. But its the only way of me knowing i wont hAVE to run to the bathroom 5 times before class is overwith. It least when im high tho i have a different perspective on the lectures and what not.

edit: prednisone is from the DEVIL. Expect LOTS of acne (well idk u said ur 33 right) Mood swings, lots of anger and pissedoff-ness.

Your checks will be puffy, u will see swelling in your breast (not much but enough for me to notice)

And worst of all, you cant just drop it. you have to ween off. Im currently weening off of it and boy im i glad.

Good luck with class tomorrow! I've still got a little over a week before I have to go back, but I'll probably smoke sometime that day.

You speak the truth about Prednisone! I haven't had to take it in 2 years or so now, but it's the most horrible drug I've been put on for Crohn's, without a doubt. My face puffed up, I had tons of acne, and had to take my high school senior pictures with my face all huge from it, which sucked.

I've told my doctors that I won't take Prednisone again unless it's a life or death situation. Though, I'll probably have to take Entocort for a bit after Monday. Considering I can feel where my small intestines are inflammed, I'm guessing my GI will have me start that. Hopefully it's not as bad as Prednisone though...

Yep. To me, it has to be in the food system. Johne's disease in cows in just like Crohn's in humans. I've done some reading that suggests that the bacteria in cows is making it into the milk/dairy supply because it can't be killed by the pasteurization methods in the U.S. I'd be interested to see what the numbers are like in Ireland. They took the situation seriously enough that they changed their pasteurization methods some years ago.

Yeah, definitely see a Gastroenterologist. The heat thing you mention is interesting. I have noticed my worst Crohn's flares are around July of every year. I feel ya on the symptoms you are experiencing. I have night sweats a lot and absolutely hate it. I've been having them almost nightly of late.

Best of luck with classes today! Be careful! Do the 'ol, "don't take any more with you than you're gonna smoke" routine like smoking a J. Easier to ditch it if you need to then if a situation got hairy.

I don't like the idea of the Pred. It's already making my bloodsugars wacky and harder to control. It's also making me shit like crazy. I've woken up the last two nights twice having to go. They say that Prednisone "feeds" yeast in one's system. More and more, I am wondering how much yeast is playing a part in all of my health woes.
