Unhappy Fibromyalgia & Lupus

Aloha

To those of you who don't know what the diseases are, having fibromyalgia is like having a single, enormous bruise around and inside your entire body, while lupus is like a cancer that eats at your immune system. The combination of these illnesses is extremely harsh.

Someone very close to me is suffering from both of these chronic pain illnesses, and I am trying to get her to try marijuana as a medicine.

Until about a couple years ago when I first began showing her all the good weed can do, she was against it completely. Now I'm finally beginning to open her eyes to the medicinal applications of weed.

She has gone through a myriad of pharmaceuticals, and needless to say none of them have done a whole lot of good. I believe weed is the answer, and that it will get rid of the pain. If weed can help multiple sclerosis, it can definetly help with fibromyalgia and lupus. All she is afraid of is "becoming a stupid stoner".

I was wondering if anyone on Grasscity has or knows somebody who has the diseases fibromyalgia and/or lupus, and is using medical marijuana as a medicine?

Seriously, if she refuses to check out a medical marijuana clinic (and there are plenty of them in California), I'm just gonna roll up some Maui Wowie and smoke it with her. Maybe that will further change her ignorant perception.

Mahalo all

He high lights Blueberry and Bubble Gum for pain relief form Fibromyalgia.

Check out the list, I've used Indicas in the past for when my MS Contin prescription runs out and I can't get a new 'script. OG Kush seems to be best for my post-op vertebra fusion after ruptured L4 and L5 disks. Thank God for marijuana.

My grandmother also suffers from FibroMyalgia.

She recently had to have neurosurgery on her upper spine, in an attempt to relieve some of her pain.
Its too early to tell.

I've been trying to get her to try Cannabis as a medicine.

She too, can't seem to get over the stigma of 'smoking' or even the taboo of using Marijuana.

She is definatly becoming more open as the days go on, though.
One day I'm confident She'll try it, and it will work wonders.

She is intolerable to conventional opiate painkillers. Attemped Vicodin, Percocet... Even a short trial of OxyCodone. Alas, nothing works.

Fibromyalgia is a hell of an illness. As im sure lupus is aswell.
Best of luck, my friend.

When I heard my grandfathers glaucoma medication wasn't working, I called his doctor and asked what his stance was on using marijuana as a treatment for glaucoma when conventional therapies fail, and he said his next move might have been recommending that (grandfather lives in CA). So now my grandfather uses marijuana everyday medicinally, and he says it's helping much better than any medication he has tried before.

Wow, thats a pretty cool list. Amazing how different strands of marijuana can have specific effects on the body depending on the illness, if that thread it viable.

To be honest, I don't think anyone I know grows Blueberry or Bubble Gum cannabis. I'm going to put my trust in Maui Wowie for my relative with fibromyalgia and lupus though, and I'll get back to you on how it effects her.

I'm sorry for your Grandmother man. Truly, I am.

One thing I am using to convince my relative that medical marijuana is a good option is the complex we have that because of her combined illnesses, she probably won't live longer than another 15 years. Maybe that could help with your granmother?

What I would say to both my relative and your grandmother: just smoke one joint, and if it doesn't help, you can at least say you tried. Your relative and mine are both getting on in years; how can one joint do any harm when it can possibly do all the healing?

This woman I knew, when I was a freshman in High School, she used MMJ and had some form of lupus that caused her pain and made her not able to take painkillers. I think MMJ is praised for helping lupus patients, because they cannot take opiate painkillers and MMJ can help pain. I doubt it actually treats the underlying issue of lupus, just the pain associated with it.

I know many patients with FMS and SLE. All of them do well with cannabis.
You may wish to look into preparing edible cannabis concoctions for her, which would be more . . .perhaps, tolerable.
You can make cannabutter and put it in a cookie recipe. Note: use less than the full amount in the recipe (example: if the cookie recipe calls for 3/4cup butter, then use 1/4cup in cannabutter and the rest in plain butter), that way it's not too strong for a cannabis naive person to handle. With edibles start low dose and work up. Edibles take longer to start ( up to an hour or 2), but last longer than smoke, for some. So, do not let them chow down on more than one cookie, or they might have a bad experience, or sleep for ages. LOL
You can prepare a cannabis tincture which is taken via eyedropper and placed under the tongue for sublingual absorption. It works almost as fast as smoking. It's an alcohol extract of cannabis.
If you're really creative you can prepare cannabis elixir, which is a cannabis syrup made with honey. 1/2-1tsp at a time, and it yummy, too. (gotta make tincture first, then combine with honey in a double-boiler to evaporate out the alcohol)

Good luck!
