Oh my aching back!

Hello all! I am a sufferer of chronic back pain. My situation started 3 years or so ago when I was injured on the job. My back went from sore to down right excruciating and the orthpedist treatment was not helping. Eventually about a month after the accident happened I woke up and could not feel my body from the waist down. I went to the ER and was told I had nerve damage and needed to see a neurologist. They sent me to John's Hopkins and a few days later I had surgery (lumbar lamenectomy). And a promise for a spinal fusion in my future. Now I have some minor permanant paralysis on the outside of both my legs, as well as patches of a burning sensation here and there, my crotch and anus area is numb with weakened bladder control, and I cant stand for more than 30 minutes or so without great pain in my back and legs. Sometimes my back and legs hurt for no reason.
I don't want to take pain medication because I have heard of the horror stories of addiction, and needing more and more drugs to continue working. I was an avide MJ user when I was younger and only stopped because of feelings that I was doing "wrong" in societies eyes and needed to "grow-up" and "get serious" about life. All that really happened was I stopped and regular everyday life got a lot more boring and less enjoyable!
Well, recently I endulged the idea of starting to smoke again. I remember some of the amazing things that I experienced from MJ. I know that it helped me immeasurably with headaches, a toothache, he pain from when I had wisdom teeth removed, and a severe burn, cuts, and aches I got from a motorcyle crash. My back isnt getting any better, could MJ possibly help me with the cronic pain? Has anyone out there used this for chronic spinal issues?
I live in MD and I researched the laws and understand that we have legal medical marijuana. But I cant seem to figure out how to get it! I dont know any friends anymore that have it. How do I find a co-op or do I grow my own? Can anyone help me with these 5 or so questions?

Like i've said before and i'll say again.

Heres my advice, its not simple...

Get all your bud, put it in a bowl, put somthing over the top of it, fill an oven pot with water and put the bowl ontop of it, dry it out ALOT, get some form of chocolate covered sweets, hold a lighter or fire under it (Keep it at a good distance, only let it inflate) add some of your super dry bud, and enjoy, just dont use much, you WILL whitey. (I use it medically too. For me and my mom. And when i stop my uncal from being a negitive steriotype that i hate it can help him too.)

Long story short cannabis will completly cure your pain. You will have problems walking, but you can easly stand the pain. If you grew you need a weak indoor Indicia, i know afew if you want examples.
So will "Spice" if you use enough.
SMALL ammounts of salvia and woodworm can have the same effect also (Numbing as hell....). I know millions more but berleave me, it gets really annoying after awhile.....................

Contrary to what the guy above you just said, MJ will NOT necessarily cure your pain. It may only dull it some - but hey, taking the edge off is better than nothin, right?

I happen to have a very bad back, myself (I have all kinds of pinched nerves and shit, and possibly bulging/herniated discs), and I can def. say that MMJ does help the pain a good amount. It's never completely gone, though.

It IS a wonderful anti-spastic, which relieves most of my muscle spasms, and makes life a lot more livable.

You don't want a "weak indoor Indica", either. You want some potent ass shit like Medicine Man (aka White Rhino). You can run a search for medicinal strains, browse through the choices until you find one that's right for you. For your back problems you're gonna want to look for something with high anti-inflammatory/anti-spastic properties.

You can check Google for your states particulars, and for pot-docs in your area. You might also want to see if there are any medical clubs in your area. If not, find out what the laws are for growing (NORML's website should help with this) in your state, and grow your own.

Thanks for responding Cottons! I was also thinking of something stronger than a weak Indica! Although, back when I was smoking I was very receptive to the effects of MJ. All I needed was maybe 2 hits from a bong and I was done! I had stopped for about 2 months and a friend of mine talked me into sharing a bowl for old times sake and it hit me so hard I felt like I was having a panic attack! And now I understand that the strains are much more potent now. So slow going is gonna be the way for me.
I checked around the web and as far as I can tell there are no co-ops or clubs that I have been able to find, and absolutly nothing about any pro-doctors. NORML states that this law requires the court to consider a defendant's use of medical marijuana to be a mitigating factor in marijuana-related state prosecution. If the patient, post-arrest, successfully makes the case at trial that his or her use of marijuana is one of medical necessity, then the maximum penalty allowed by law would be a $100 fine.
So it seems that I will need to go the route of growing my own for my own use? I have a lot of new questions now that I will ask on a new thread about growing.

I have a herniated disc in my back, it sucks because I'm still young and I have NO clue how it happend...I was probably drunk and fell.......aint alcohol great! I think its pinching a nerve because it hurts my lower abdomin and even my well.....balls... and thats no fun. unfortunitally there is no medical marijuana in my state...but I have thought about it. I really hope I don't wake up unable to feel my legs damn..good luck on gettin a medical mary card

A little MJ goes a long way when one suffers from migraines. Although I cannot speak for anyone else, if you suffer from migraines you will try ANYTHING to ease the horrific pain.
Will relax you enough to sleep and usually takes most of the pain away afterwards.
Just my two cents.
