Opening a dispensary in California: Advice?

Does anyone have any advice on opening a dispensary in California?

I keep reading to keep as little paperwork as possible... okay, does that mean I shouldn't have membership? Some clubs require or offer discounts to members, I assume so they will have a list of patients they are the "caregiver" to, so that they have a legal defense.

If my club pays sales tax, then I'm obviously telling the government how much I've sold. I don't want to evade taxes!

Once we have a president in office who will stop the DEA raids this will be a lot less risky.

On startup costs I realize I'll need to pay for rent (with deposit), phone (with deposit?), gas (with deposit?), electric (with deposit?), garbage, payroll, and of course the medication itself.

I realize I'll need to comply with state, county, and local laws as far as business and the cannabis dispensary.

I'll want to contact the city, county, and police department. I'll want to make sure my club will not be near a school...

Any advice is appreciated.

which location? i would suggest hollywood or santa monica...hope it goes well, i live in socal and willing to work for weed and fritos!!! lol

Stay small at first, and fly under the radar as best you can. The next year is going to be bad for raids, since this is the Bush swan song from a lame duck administration. Try to set up along the guidelines of a non-profit organization.

And do not get iffy about who works there, the feds love to 'infiltrate'.

Very interesting about the hash oil and kief. Should I stay entirely away from any kind of hash, hash oil and kief then?

Has any club without these items been raided?

I know that the club i tend to frequent sells hash of different types, including honey oil occasionally, and also sells kief. I believe that they will be around for quite sometime because of the fact that they were one of the first 2 clubs to start charging and paying tax in the bay area in northern california, and were charging tax in october maybe even earlier even though it only is becoming mandatory on march 1st of '08. they also offer free homeopathic medical services and clinics such as therapeutic massage, acupressure, yoga, naturopathic medicine, etc and refer to themselves as a health center. they were also only one of 2 out of 8 clubs that i have visited that actually verified my doctor's recommendation. harborside health center is the place, and if you can get ahold of them on a forum, you might find some answers. http://www.harborsidehealthcenter.com/

Good luck, I just read in the paper this morning that 4 masked gunmen robbed a dispensary in Los Angeles to the tune of $10,000 and 4lb.'s of product. Shots were fired but no one was injured. Not exactly something I would want to worry about, on top of the DEA raids....so yeah....good luck.

please god dont be another shill opf a coop. Also if i remember correctly, pharmacies dont have to pay income tax on their sales so why should you? my 2 cents

Ah yes, you don't have to pay tax on pharmaceutical poison drugs, but cannabis is not prescribed as such, so you do. I'm happy California recognizes they can at least collect sales tax on it. Paying sales tax can help support for medical cannabis and legalization.

Until ur state really supports the running of a cannabis shop, you put your livlihood in danger.
Just make sure you have a back-up plan for when the shit comes down.
