canadian medicinal mary jane for ADD

poking around the internet while preping to find all the necessary accoutremant (spelled right? forget about it) i came across C.A.L.M. and some canadian medicinal marijuana clubs. they give a detailed list of diseases that one can use marijuana to alleviate symptoms, ADD ADHD and other AdDs being listed. Im sure others on this forum have the diagnosis like myself, so who is movin to canada now? or should i say eh?

Nice link and thread. I suspect that the majority of people on GC have some form of ADD and that they did not do very well in school. There is usually a reason why people turn to drugs to help them feel "normal". Hiding from the anxieties of life and ADD are a big reason why people do drugs.

I know that is the case with me. I almost did not graduate high school. I walked for graduation but was not technically graduated. Then after HS I took a semester off then went to a Junior College. I failed out of that miserably. Then a series of large event occurred in my life and to make a long story short, 10 years after graduating HS, I finally graduated college with a Bachelors of Science degree. Oh, and I smoked weed the entire time I was in school and graduated with a 3.795 GPA.

So, if any of you kids out there think that you can not do it, or sometimes feel dumb because all the other boys and girls are making the grade, fugedaboutit. You can do it, you are not dumb, you are probably pretty smart. Don't quit, I have faith in you. LoL Ok enough of my ranting and raving, I am just stoned. But the above story was real and not a confabulation.

Not true.

ADD is a neurological disorder. It has nothing to do with up bringing or surroundings. It can sometimes be treated by subscribing medication but there is no known cure. ADD occurs in people that are actually very smart. Albert Einstein had ADD. The guy almost didn’t graduate high school. I recognise it's an actual disorder, but I don't think all the people diagnosed it actually have it, and you saying it was the likely cause for lots of people not doing well in school isn't true.

Most people are never diagnosed by a professional. I will agree that some people use it as an excuse and some say they have it but really do not. If a person gets diagnosed by an expert in the field, why and how could you argue with their conclusions? And, absolutely a lot of people who do poorly in school have ADD. Not all of course but the majority of SMART people who otherwise do poorly in school most likely have ADD.

I'm not contesting that ADD does affect many people who are quite intelligent and who would otherwise do well academically. I don't mean that it is used as an excuse, merely that alot of pyschiatrists are perhaps quick to diagnose it and prescribe medications (like Ritalin) when there could be other problems involved, and other methods other than drugs to allieviate problems ADD may cause. There is a not-insignificant amount of research (found in some fairly reputable medical journals) that suggest that ADD can be caused, or inflamed by pyschological events, along the lines of what Spanish Fly was saying.

Although I've never been diagnosed with ADD, I strongly believe that I have it. I'm a really smart kid and all my teachers and my rents and everyone knows it, but when it comes to school, i find that I just can't seem to concentrate. Like, at the beginning of the year, I'l always do my work and get it done, but then as the semester progresses I just lose interest and don't care. When I'm in class, I can never seem to focus or get work done. I find that when I blaze I'm more focused and I can seem to get things done. The problem is, I've recently moved to Toronto and had to get a new doctor, who I've yet to talk with, so if I were to goto my doctor and tell him that I think I have ADD and that weed helps me concentrate and all this that he'd just think of it as an excuse to get a Green Card.

Also, If I were to get a green card, I doubt I could afford it, and as far as i know, no drug plans in Ontario/Canada cover MM.

Anyone know of any drug plans that cover it?

i got ADHD and today i had a test in econ. i took my medicine but still its impossible to concentrate and stay still.

i dont know why i wrote this but other people are talkin aobut add so i decided to join in

**edit** there is a difference in some video games and school. school is monotonous in the fact that you dont do anyting but read line after line/ do prob after prob. in video games there is constant stimulation because everything around you changes. you kill a guy in GTA and cops come. you forget a plus sign in math and you still get another pencil mark for an answer.

screw you man. you have no idea what your talking about. i have SEVERE add/adhd and you wanna know what, all the way until my freshman yr in highschool i was nearly failing every class, couldnt pay attention, couldnt focus on ANYTHING (yes, that includes vid games, eating, sports, you name it). End of freshman yr i was put on adderall and it made a world of difference. now, dont think it cured me or what not, i was semi functional on a high dosage and, even to this day, i take that dosage jsut so i can get threw the day. weekends i dont take it becuase my body needs time to process it all. look, my point is this, payin attention in math class and concentrating on vid games all fall into the same area when you have add/adhd. not the kids fault he cant sit down and just chill out and not start starin at something shiny or the texture of his shoe laces. next time, do a little research before you throw down a comment as ignorant as the one you did.

Not only do I have ADD, but I also have something called "dyscalculia". What it is is a similar problem to ADD but it has to do with math. Brains with dyscalculia have great trouble understanding math and making mathematical connections. I failed algebra 3 semesters in high school and had 2 D's in summer session. Usually, they say if you have trouble with algebra you will do better in geometry. Bullshit! I failed both semesters of geometry. When I was going to community College, I dropped out because I was worried I would fail the pre Algebra Class. Then a few years later, I thought I finally found my niche, so I went back to school to pursue the degree. Algebra was one of the last classes I took and with the help of a math genius that I finally found after 15 years of tutors and failure; I passed College Algebra with an A-. From the first high school algebra class to the BS degree it took me 14 years to pass Algebra 101.

So, Shibby, don't let the other prejudice boys and girls bother you. Just stick with the meds and plug it away. Oh speaking of meds, they had me try Prozac, Zoloft, Nizoril, Dexedrine (speed), Welbutrin, Clonodine Blah blah blah.
