Hi all, I was curious as to what dispensary's usually are looking for as far as hiring, or if I might already be somewhat qualified for this already. Im living in illinois now, but will be moving to Cali in a few months and ill be grabbin my 215 soon after i get there. I think I have a pretty expansive knowlege of cannabis. A rough synopsis of my knowledge of cannabis includes knowing a pretty decent amount about indica and sativa, and the sub-species ruderalis (autoflower). I know how to make hash oil with alc, naphtha, and butane, and also can make decent hash by screening. I also have a pretty expansive knowledge of making edibles. Been making edibles for a couple years now and can make tinctures, oils, butter, etc. well, and can pretty much make anything from lollipops to tea to blueberry muffins to a simple brownie. While I have never grown, I do have a pretty extensive knowledge of growing and what will get better results (just knowledge, I certainly believe you have to actually grow to seriously say you know growing). I have a decent knowledge of germinating, growing, cloning, flowering, drying, curing, types of lights, use of mh lights, effects of excess or not enough nutrients, etc. I also have a pretty good ability to discern the % of sativa and indica in a strain by taking 2-3 hits of it, and am usually within 10%. Name brand strains smoked include NYC diesel, sour diesel, blueberry diesel, chiesel diesel, lemon diesel, durban poison, skunk 1, skunk 3, super skunk, Jack herer, Hawaiian Kush, Colorado Kush, Strawberry Cough, True Blueberry (dj short), Purple Urkle, Purple Haze, White Rhino, White Widow, Purple hash plant #5, Monkey Butt (lol), Grape Ape, Green Crack, The cheese, AK 47, OG kush, Chocolope, Afgoohy, Bubba Kush, Stawberry Kush, Banana Kush, Blue Dream, Pineapple Express, Head Band Kush, La Confidential, Space Queen. Theres prob more i just forgot too. (not trying to brag here lol). I feel that If I were to work at a dispensary id prob be knowledgeable enough to suggest a strain depending on the high a person desired and would be able to suggest alternatives based on that.

Let me kno what you guys think

Peace, stay up

To be honest I don't think a single thing you listed matters to a dispensary owner. As an employee there I doubt you'll be making hash or edibles or "determining the % of indica and sativa by taking 2-3 rips" etc.

Think about it a dispensary that sells edibles just buys them from companies that sell to many dispensaries. They probably already have a system for making their own hash or buying it, and I'm sure the grower will tell them if the bud is indica or sativa dominant.

To be honest working at a dispensary isn't really some amazing job. I doubt most of the budtenders I know can do any of that stuff, but it doesn't really matter cause there job is just to interact with the customer and to sell them whatever they want. I'd try to advertise people skills and an ability to be a responsible employee more so than I'd try to advertise being the ultimate stoner.

Lol wasnt really trying to prove that im the ultimate stoner, just trying to show knowledge. And as far as making hash or edibles, if a dispensary were to make their own that would cut out the middle man so they would make more profit from them. Im not saying that id be like the cannabis chef lol, just saying that if a dispensary were to make their own id b able to help out. And i kno the grower can tell if its sativa/indica, if he didnt he'd b an idiot. Also, idk about vermont but Ive lived in Colorado for a bit and im pretty sure Cali has a similar system, meaning dispensary's have to grow x% of their own crop. Also, Im not really looking at it as a dream job, im more looking at it as I want to try dreads, but dreads arnt the best idea for ur average job lol.

all that knowledge will help, but honestly i don't think it will do all that much for ya.. ive heard stories of people getting offered the job just because of how often they go in.. so the staff gets to know them and it kind of just happens. also come across some pretty dumb budtenders that are only hired for being a good looking girl. whatever it takes to bring in more sales i guess.

as for the edible part, there are some clinics that have their own "cannabis chefs" so i could see where that might help you out..

ultimately its just being in the right place at the right time (from what ive seen)

Edit: ^^^ let me revise this. tits and a cute face help.

Haha I wasn't trying to bust your balls nor imply you were the ultimate stoner lol it just kinda sounded like it from the description. All I'm saying is that working in a dispensary is really no different than working as a clerk in any store. And I actually live in Colorado so yeah I'm speaking from experience too haha.

All I'm saying is look even though it's cool you can do all that stuff any dispensary you're gonna work at has already existed for XX amount of time before you got out there. Meaning they probably already have a system for making their own hash, or for edibles, or for growing or whatever. Meaning, personally I think you'd be more marketable as an employee if you were to advertise good people skills. Since everything is already in place a dispensary presumably would only be interested in hiring new clerks who are good at moving product (aka either people who are knowledgeable about strains and what strains help treat what or just really hot girls lol)

This is just my opinion, I think it'd help you get a job in a dispensary if you focused on those things but maybe im jus crazy

No, no, no - you're absolutely right. I got a part-time job at my local dispensary. The thing is I knew nothing about cannabis... only how to smoke it. She hired me because of my character and my people skills.
All of the stuff you're saying about them already having some sort of system in place for making their hash and edibles, is right. Actually, everything you said is correct... for the most part. :smoke:

It's all about who you know and how well you are at interacting with customers. Honestly, I bet half of the stoners that walk in have just as much knowledge on the buds as you, if not close enough to not make much a difference. And half those stoners are also trying to get that same job, at least I would be.

Chances are pretty slim unless you try really hard and be patient or befriend someone in the biz. It's just like getting any other job really, but I can't imagine a dispensary needing that many people to run it. Plus if I personally owned one I would hire a friend or two, probably wouldn't look outside to the general public.

good luck though that'd be a sweet job.
