Re: The M Files Seeking The Friendly Stranger

I really like your sentence structure and word choice. I think the problem with this one was the introduction. A lot of people on this forum find it difficult to get through large amounts of text without getting bored. The intro. was sort of long and it was difficult to understand the dialogue. Maybe for your next article get a homeless guy to read it over and if he approves it should be good to go for GC as a whole.

You can tell prohibition works when ordinary citizens are hoping for one gang to gain superiority to establish stability.

Ha, duplicity nailed it... but to elaborate. You've got to know your audience man. I'm one, and there are those out there, that can comprehend elaborate phrasings such as yours.... some, though-- and especially on a message board-- want the jist right away.

To put it simply, as a professor of mine wrote atop a term paper I completely bullshitted, "A little less sunshine, more meat."

how is this possible if smoking at 420 wasnt invented until 1971. heres some back ground.

The term 420 originated at San Rafael High School, in 1971, among a group of about a dozen pot-smoking wiseacres who called themselves the Waldos. The term 420 was shorthand for the time of day the group would meet, at the campus statue of Louis Pasteur, to smoke pot. ``Waldo Steve,' a member of the group who now owns a business in San Francisco, says the Waldos would salute each other in the school hallway and say ``420 Louis!' The term was one of many invented by the group, but it was the one that caught on. ``It was just a joke, but it came to mean all kinds of things, like `Do you have any?' or `Do I look stoned?' ' he said. ``Parents and teachers wouldn't know what we were talking about.' The term took root, and flourished, and spread beyond San Rafael with the assistance of the Grateful Dead and their dedicated cohort of pot-smoking fans. The Waldos decided to assert their claim to the history of the term after decades of watching it spread, mutate and be appropriated by commercial interests. The Waldos contacted Hager, and presented him with evidence of 420's history, primarily a collection of postmarked letters from the early '70s with lots of mention of 420. They also started a Web site, waldo420.com. ``We have proof, we were the first,' Waldo Steve said. ``I mean, it's not like we wrote a book or invented anything. We just came up with a phrase. But it's kind of an honor that this emanated from San Rafael.

Unbearable writing bro, find an editor.

Edit: The Friendly Stranger thing sounds interesting, I just couldn't force myself to read the whole thing. I suggest adjusting your style for the message board audience.

Re: The M Files Seeking The Friendly Stranger

your last article was fairly decent and enticed me to keep and eye out for your next one. And now that the time has come I really wish I hadn't bothered. I hope the rest of your articles make a bit more sense. As others have said maybe you should look into getting someone to edit your work before you post. I understand that can be hard to remember sometimes but keep it in mind.

I thoroughly enjoyed the first article, this one was a disapointment to me. Sorry. Sounds like you were cooked when you wrote the whole thing and forgot to edit?

Re: The M Files Seeking The Friendly Stranger

I have to agree with the negative comments because I don't like fiction and I was expecting an article on "DIY, Lifestyle, product reviews from the Sea of Green and more". ..ie non-fiction.

If Swift-esq satire yarns read like they were written by someone baked off his ass then this one is great.

Re: The M Files Seeking The Friendly Stranger

Where's the new articles? It's been almost 2 weeks since posting this, your most recent, offering to an apparent bi-weekly column. I really enjoyed the G13 article and look forward to future articles of similar caliber.

Re: The M Files Seeking The Friendly Stranger

i dunno about you guys but frankly jack kerouac's writing style just plain pisses me off, i cant stand it when writers say something then go onto something else thats completely random and really doesnt have anything to do with what they were saying in the first place.

about this article though, i thought it was interesting, how ever there was a large sense of what the fuck is going on and what is this guy talking about, maybe if you explained everything a lil more i think itd work better but thats just my thoughts on this

also i thought the reefer man video was the shit
