Thumbs down Swedish citizen charged for importing perscribed cannabis medicine

This Swedish citizen was charged with posession of a narcotic substance (Marinol), despite it being perscribed by a doctor, and despite having received a letter from the Swedish Medical Products Agency stating that it was legal to bring the medicine into the country.

Re: Swedish citizen charged for importing perscribed cannabis medicine

The situation seems insane. The patient can use the medicine, but can't get it from a Swedish doctor, and can bring it into the country according the medical part of the government, but not according to the customs part.
It sounds like there's a lot of contradictions that need working out in Swedish law regarding medical marijuana.

Is marijuana accepted in Sweden like it is in the Netherlands?

No in Sweden they can do blood testing without consent, if they think you have been doing drugs. Given that they are not very lenient on marijuana. Also there political system is just a bunch of socialist bullshit, not surprised this happened. 25% sales tax mmmm...

Re: Swedish citizen charged for importing perscribed cannabis medicine

I hear they are very strict on recreational drug use in Sweden, but my point was that the guy has a letter outlining the supposed rules regarding being allowed to import and use a medical extract, but then being charged by Customs for trying to do so.
I mean, they are hard on people importing and using opiates in a lot of places, but most of those places allow opiates to be used lawfully in accordance with local Health Department policy, and under medical supervision. Why is there a problem in Sweden with using a THC medicine under the same conditions?

Mr S. Opiates are allowed and Cannabis compounds are not. The reasons are beyond me. Swedish drug policies are not based on science. They are based on ideology, zero tolerance against the recreational use of drugs. They believe that MMJ will be the breach head for liberalists to legalize cannabis and want nothing to do with it. In many aspects sweden is very strange like that...

As you say, it's probably ideology based. I believe it's a very Christian (Lutheran) country, but hopefully people there will realise the benefits of MMJ before too long.

It has a mix of reasons, one is probably control, they don't have that many cops in Sweden, especially out of the cities, so fear is all they got. There is also the ignorance factor, the older generation grew up to believe that weed was the devil, maybe even to a higher extent then the US. My father thinks that stuff will kill him, even though I have proven otherwise. I would think it was a religious factor, it really isn't that big in Sweden anymore.

On the bright side if he goes to Jail for this he will be in a good place, non violent criminals are basically sent to hotels where they cant leave.
