Ok I know getting busted with weed can make you lose federal funding for college, which really scares me. Anyway I'm looking at PA's laws on pot and I see:

30g or less, misdeminor, 30 days incarceration, $500 fine.

For first offenders, the court may grant probation without verdict.

Then they have something called conditional release.

Conditional release: The state allows conditional release or alternative or diversion sentencing for people facing their first prosecutions. Usually, conditional release lets a person opt for probation rather than trial. After successfully completing probation, the individual's criminal record does not reflect the charge.

So I'm wondering, in order to lose aid for school does it have to be a felony charge? More importantly, with everything I posted would I lose my funding if I was caught with a small amount of weed(it'd be my first offense).

Dude, if your so worried about loosing yuor funding just don't carry pot on ya, its not worth it.

Yeah I pretty much got that down(carrying weed=chance of trouble). I'm just trying to figure out the consequences so I can choose how many risks I'm willing to take, or if I won't take any at all.

For most states, gettting caught with weed or other drugs will get your funding taken away.. It doesn't have to go to trial..

It won't be on your criminal record if you don't go to trial. But it will be around long enough to for the government funding to find out!

Well that sucks. I really wish there was a lawyer on this site who could clear up the many legal issues members have questions about. Right now I'm currently heading in the direction of law, but if I get caught smoking I'm completely fucked. Oh well, haven't been busted yet *knocks on wood*

ok this is how it will work. if your under 18 which you should not be it would be on your record till you turn 18 then dissapear. but once you are 18 and you completed your probation then its completely wiped off. so they cant even see that you were arrested.

arrested march 20th 2003
went to court may 27th 2003
sentenced to 50 hours of community service and 6 months probation
november 28th got the letter saying i was free free at last free at last

although my case didnt involve pot. just peaceful war protesting

If your reall that concerned jsut dont carry pot because no matter how carful you are you can still get caught.

I'm not sure of every state, but most will stop colledge grants if you are arrested for much of anything If you are booked. even if it comes off your record later, the gov will not issue a grant.

I have asked three other people and all say the same..

Well I didn't really ask advice about carry pot....I know it's bad and risky. Thanks for the comments anyway.

I'm kinda hoping it has to be a felony but you guys seem to think it just has to be an arrest. I'm getting really curious now. Is there anyone here receiving federal funding even though they've been busted before?

PS. Please don't start a fight, not only is it pointless it'll take this post off topic

I'm not really sure about that..One of my friends got busted growing on campus, but because he was growing it in a frat house, the police were not involved..he was suspended from college for 2 years. Oh and I know a couple people who got felony probation..completed their probation and the felony never left their record afterwards.. It's not a big deal to carry it on you..just don't carry it while stoned.

well i have federal money for college and i was arrested last summer right before college and so they had all that information but i still got my money
