Weak Arguments for Legalization

I read all the time on these forums that people want to legalize marijuana on the premise that it is completely natural and is a plant. And although I believe in legalization I think that is a shitty argument. That whole premise would send you down a slippery slope to legalizing things like opium. There are many better arguments in my opinion. But the whole all natural aspect has nothing to do with it.

Agreed, but I think that self determination is the premise of that "under-elaborated" arguement.

The same with Opium. Yeah, it's al natural, but it is also addictive and physically degenerative. But that's not the point. Prohibition is never the answer, whether it's the good herb, or crack-cocaine.

all drugs should be legalized. How else can you enforce age restrictions on their sale? ..for that matter how can you impose standards on their quality if you keep them illegal??

I agree though that the argument that "it's natural so it should be legal" is weak..


a better argument would be that it is discriminatory to legalize tobacco and alcohol while at the same time arresting 2,000 people a day for marijuana.

I don't think it should be legalized, cos it's a drug, but it's not on the same scale as something like meth or coke etc. Decriminalization would be just fine for me.

opium legalization are you kidding me? our country would last a year tops
