Its amazing to see that our state representatives dont know the difference between legalization and decriminilization. Politics is all about who you know not what you know, I'm sure you could find some highschool students to better represent our states than these douche bags. No offense to the generation before me(I'm 18) but once you are all dead and gone a new generation will take power without a stick up their ass and with a brain in their head.

O by the way I just remembered that my state representative(Jim Demint R, SC) actually lives in my neighborhood!!! So I might just call his house phone hahaha

I am sad to see that all the responses so far are negative... Has anyone received a positive response? Such a shame... and I haven't gotten any responses, not even a reply!

The problem is that they aren't even reading what we send them. HR 5483 was CLEARLY for decriminalization, and not legalization like the letter that was sent to me. Our government is "of the people, for the people". This isn't even holding true if a congressman can't even read correctly.

if this was really true then wouldnt an arrest rate of over 50% for p.o.m. mean that the people have spoken? and we all know these fat cats are sitting up there sipping on their drink poping pills hiding behind the police while they make laws that put us people in jail for doing the same thing they are doing

you wont change anything until there is no longer the image of "addressing the PROBLEM of drugs in our community." as long as marijuana is lumped into the category, or seen as a problem, there will be no resolution whatsoever.

I am committed to the War on Drugs and commend President Bush for his call to combat illegal drug use in our communities. Illegal drug use lowers the quality of life of the individual drug user and damages the wider community. It is for these reasons that I do not anticipate voting for legislation that legalizes the possession or use of marijuana.

Again, thank you for contacting me. It is an honor to serve in the United States House of Representatives, and to have the benefit of your advice. If you would like more information on this or any other issue, please visit my website at http://mikepence.house.gov.

I think I voted for Mike Pence. Damnit.

well, I haven't sent letters to state representatives ever because I know our system doesn't work the way it it says it does, I think the only real way to make this go away is to both flood every state government with letters from every stoner(letters that should be checked for spelling and punctuation a few times so that the news can't 'chairy pic sum rlly bad and staireo-tipikal porely speled leter') and then do mass demonstrations, im talking signs and every stoner you can rally and on like, 4/20 I think we should just get everyone to march right on up to their state capitol building and take a toke all at once, this has probably all been said before but what the stoners of this country need to do is organize and prove that we aren't going anywhere, that there are more of us than they think, we need to bobmard local news stations with letters and such, we need to do what every group in thsi country thats had its rights infringed ha sdone in the past, get together and throw our collective weight around, demand our right to freedom and the pursuit of happiness, we need to vcreta organized groups that can challenge arrests on the constitutional level, thats whats going to get H.R. 5843 passed, not hiding and writing letters to state reps, of course we could hide and just keep trying to circulate bills nad get signatures and submit them to state governments, but you need real media attention to make that work, and im willing to bet that with this countries economy going into the shitter and overflowing prisons, someones going to cry uncle pretty fast and I doubt it would be us if we got all that organized.

That was a well written argument my friend, lucky for us our government is moving in the right direction slowly yes, unnoticeable very, but the fact that a president candidate has admitted to smoking, inhaling and getting high is only a positive. Also whats going on in California and their legalization laws. I truly believe once all the trees are gone, once all the petroleum is gone, once the economy has fallen into a depression, then that is when marijuana and the use of hemp will become legal and will save this country as a whole.
