Why cops oppose legalization

A lot of blades have said cops want to keep marijuana illegal coz they make so much money off it. I always thought that was straight up incorrect until I read this!

http://forestparkreview.com/main.asp...23&TM=82974.48
Quote:
Arresting agencies typically are able to keep 65 percent of any money confiscated as part of an investigation, according to Aftanas.

Other property, such as vehicles used to traffic drugs, can also be awarded to the police department. In such cases the agency must use the car for at least one year before selling it off.
How can legislators and the general public take law enforcement's opposition to legalization as legitimate when they're obviously benefiting from the prohibition? It's clearly a conflict of interest.

So when they seize cars, they actually keep them for their own personal use? That's disgusting, putting their own needs ahead of the needs of society.

Well that's in the police departments eyes.

Of course they just want money.

Cops though? They're just doing their job. The law says it's illegal, and it's their job to enforce that law.

Still bullshit though, they could make TONS more money if it was legalized and taxed properly.

Not quite 'personal' but yes.
Last year I got my bike stolen and the cops actually retrieved it. [THANKS POLICEMEN!! YOU DID SOMETHING IN FIGHTING A REAL CRIME]
When I went to the station they brought me into the back with a room full of shit they confiscated or found that was stolen and hadn't been taken back by the owner. Apparently they auction the stuff off at the end of the year.
Well we crossed through all the police cars and SUVs to get there, and one SUV stuck out like a sore thumb. It was a Lexus RX330 I believe, gold exterior, looked real nice. I asked what that was there for and apparently it was confiscated in a drug bust or something and they used it to drive around. Possibly for undercover.
So my mom used that to say "Don't do drugs, if you get caught you will get your car taken away and your house too"

cops want Cannibus illigal because it gives them something to do.
if it was legalized. cops think
"oh shit, we actually have to go for the DANGEROUS drug users"

and that puts they're lives at risk. which is something they don't want.

i really do not like cops in my neighborhood.
they'll stop you if you scratch your nuts the wrong way. no joke.

Its not the police's choice. They just enforce the law.

It's not all about the cash, it's also about power and control over otherwise innocent citizens. The Government has a hard time keeping a leash on free men, but turn them into criminals and all their rights go away. Then they own you and your's.

The War on Drugs allows the Government to pry into the lives of people, who apart from their consensual crime of responsible drug use, do nothing wrong. The illegality of certain substances gives the Government excuses to militarize the police and ignore certain rights people take for granted in other aspects of life. All this translates into a system of abuse that entails confiscation of private property w/o compensation, over use SWAT teams to bully people into submission and needless use of destructive no-knock warrants in the middle of the night.

Legalization will severely weaken Government control on it's Citizens, as they would then have to wait for us law abiding Citizens to actually go and do something truly criminal to put their boots on our necks. That's why the .gov is so adamant about their drug policies. The War on Drugs was never meant to protect us, all it does is make foreign "businessmen" rich, and Americans criminals. It's the Government's war against its own people; a civil war of sorts.

the ignorance i see when i read your answers are appalling in every which way...i am a proud supporter of L.E.A.P (Law Enforcment Against Prohibition)
http://www.leap.cc/cms/index.php

police may enforce the law but for some strange reason nearly 1/4 of the police force in america support L.E.A.P

leap belives prohibition didn't work for alchohal and understands the organized crime that springs from the smuggling of prohibitinary contraband.

LEGALIZE IT, CORPRATISE IT, TAX IT.

coonsider the mystical plant being legal farmers can make mass profit even if the price for a farmer to sell his crop to say "marlboro Green" he may get 5$ per 1/8 ounce. not much however its legal so the farmer grew a massive field 50 acres of marijuana this farmer has a few hundred pounds belive me the farmer is happy.

now "marlboro green" packeges the product and doubles up the price they sell there packs of 20 marijuana ciggaretts for 10$ to the dispensaries (7/11, liqor stores, gas stations, whatever)

now the feds should tax this 10$ pack. tax it REALLY BIG 20$ TAX.

a pack of 20 joints for 30$ HELL YEA id pay that we rise from economic deppresion from the massive new inflow the economy is stimulated, and we have taken another profit margine from organized crime.

we also free up our jails to save even more of our taxes already being paid

thats my personal opinion not leaps lol
but check out the site if you want i linked it earlier i think,.

It's called the " Policemen's Benevolent Fund".

Also the DEA's retirement package.
