Read That
"An ounce of marijuana can be used to roll as many as 60-120 joints! 100 grams is equal to 3.5 ounces. This bill would allow a person to possess 210 to 420 joints at any given time for personal use! How would the "non-profit" exchange of pot be regulated? If someone wanted to smoke pot at a restaurant, at a sports event, or at a public playground, they could do so as long as they are willing to pay the $100 civil fine."

That is for not passing the bill, that is a bunch of bullshit.

That is a bunch of bullshit! Now when you write your congressmen, mention the flaws in this logic. Why can't they just put similar restrictions on location and use as say... alcohol. I would also oppose the use of marijuana IN restaurants in the same way as smoking tobacco - people have a right to clean air, step outside to smoke!

Another important thing to mention to congressmen: THE STATES WILL DECIDE! The state laws don't HAVE to follow this federal law, that is the biggest aim of it! To give the states the freedom to enact their own marijuana laws.

If Bush were to veto this, I do think Congress would override it.

I just hope that enough congressmen realize that it would just allow states to make their own laws, rather than having constant conflict with the feds. Unfortunately, I think it would be a miracle if it even DID get to GW's desk, but keep up the emails and the phone calls!

Thanks again everyone for supporting this bill and taking action with true activism. Who says only 16 year olds are for the support of marijuana. I say we need to put pressure on them and we are doing it!

I love this forum and I love everyone who takes action on an important issue. Thanks again everyone!

You blades are awesome.

I wrote to every senator and representative in my state, and the governor.
Only one bothered to write back and he was against legalization.

Never mind, I'm constructing my next letter now and I'll write to them all again.

well i sent the email from capwiz and this is the response I got.

Quote:
April 24, 2008

Dear Mr. [ScRuFFy],
Thank you for contacting me regarding the use and decriminalization of marijuana. I sincerely appreciate hearing from you on this issue.

The Supreme Court decision in Gonzales v. Raich regarding medical marijuana made it clear that the U.S. Congress has the authority to regulate the use of marijuana within the states. Any change to the drug laws to allow medical marijuana would require a change in law passed by Congress and signed by the President.

While I am a strong believer in personal freedom, I do not support the recreational or medical use of illegal drugs regardless of whether the drug is marijuana, cocaine, or any other illegal substance. Congress has made decisions to protect our nation from certain illegal drugs, and allowing each state to make its own decision would adversely affect the protections that exist against those substances.

Hearing the views of all Georgians gives me the opportunity to better understand how important issues could impact the people of Georgia and the future interests of the nation. As your representative, I appreciate your opinion. Unfortunately, this is one of the issues I feel strongly about and I cannot support legislation to decriminalize marijuana use.

Sincerely, Lynn A Westmoreland
Member of Congress

Well if this bill passes it looks like I'll still be breaking the law. Oh well at she actually responded to me.

Sounds like the response I got from Dianne Feinstein. Well, you know, eventually people like them won't be in office anymore. Too bad they're just jealous we have more "potent" weed now than when they thought it was cool.

Unfortunately this bill will probably sit in debate until a new session of Congress, making it void. It will most likely be rewritten, as it has three times prior. The good news is, if Obama is our next pres and the bill makes it to him, we have a hell of a better chance at him passing it than Bush.
