FYI: your email counts as 13,000 emails, they assume that for every 1 person that sends an email, theres 13,000 people who feel the same way but dont care enough to send an email about it, dont fuck with letters they get dumped, EMAILS

In addition to sending emails, and calling Everyone should repost this to all social networking sites. I am not a huge fan of MySpace or Facebook, but they are a great way to spread the word. They have a much greater reach then Grasscity does (unfortunatlly). The more people that know about this the greater the flood of calls and emails to the Reps will be.

Get a list of say Pensylvania congress (for me) then you would find the ones with local offices and you could either stop down and talk or just email them and get an automated response back... your pointless choice.

Instead of sending them stuff that they may not or will refuse to follow or believe why dont you volenteer working for them then after they see that your a hard worker sit down with them and tell them you smoke weed and all the reasons and it didnt effect you on the job and maybe that will change an opinion.

FYI dont go tell everyone that they consider one email 13000 people because for a state like rhode sland that doesnt apply at all. And google wont even back what you said up.

I think it should be mentioned, and as I am not fully aware of all the facts, I may be talking out my ass, but.. I would think that Bush is a bit more likely to approve it because he is nearly out of office, so that negates any fears of lowering his approval rating, as I would assume would be a concern of the president. (Even though his approval rating is lower than Aids..) I would think the president would not want to loose the support of all the 'Good ol' boys' out there, and a president newly in office wouldn't want to drop there approval rating so soon, lol. So since Bush is almost out and has a low approval rating as it is, I would assume that would not be a concern of his, as it would be with the newly elected president. Because as there are alot of people out there who want it to be legalized, there are also alot who do not, and this legalization, allthough needed, will be very difficult, and when it does happen, it will be very big, and there will be alot of debate, even though imho anyone who disagrees with this legalization has no legal case anyway. If the prohibition never happend in the first place, and they tried to do that today, you really think it would happen? You really think they would have any legal case? Sorry, got a bit off subject..

Now as I said, I dunno all the facts, I stay out of all the government shit, but I would think this would be something to consider, correct me if I am wrong, and either way, I am sendin' an email now! Happy late 420!!

That would be nice.

I wrote this to my friends and family members. Hopefully you all are attempting something similar:

I just wrote a letter to President George W. Bush, Senator Barbara Boxer (D-CA), Senator Dianne Feinstein (D-CA), and Representative Duncan Hunter (R-CA 52nd) about House bill HR-5843, which is a bill for the decriminalization of marijuana. This one might actually work, and a number of people have already written, called, e-mailed, and spoken to their representatives on this issue. I'll post the body of my letter here so you can take a quick look at it:

"We need government we can trust in. As the 2008 generally election approaches, all three of the primary candidates for the Presidency stress the need for a more transparent, open, and honest government. Clearly, this is what the people of this great nation are calling for.

Decades of intense anti-marijuana rhetoric (and even possibly some sincere intent) has brought trust in the government to a less-than-heartening level. For too long have Americans believed that even if they wrote their Representatives and Congressmen, nothing would change on the issue of marijuana legalization. A paranoid reaction by the government (the implication being that this government does not trust the people it works for and by to use a plant responsibly) has indeed led to a paranoid response by the people.

Just what are they hiding? This is what the people ask. From virtually every smoker I know, I have heard that after their first usage, they had this question to ask: "Why is this illegal?" These people have spent the rest of their lives trying to rationalize to themselves why the War on Drugs still continues. To no avail, other than that there is some sort of conspiracy of dis-information. Could it be some well-earned paranoia?

It's no wonder that people haven't have much faith in this government to really undo the injustices it knows exist. You know, so many times in my life I have heard people say: things will never change. Well, in a democratic republic, change indeed does come slowly. But it must be slow and deliberate because we can't afford to make too many mistakes. I mean, we're dealing with real people's lives here. Because each decision must be deliberate, the government must strive for what is correct. If the people don't feel that they can be honest with the government about what they desire or need, hopelessness, chaos, or militancy are the results.

Is it right to send someone to prison for smoking a joint? Who in Congress will stand before me, look me in the eye, tell me that I have harmed anyone (but myself, in the worst case scenario), and then have the heart to send me to prison? Any Congressman that does surely misunderstands why we have a prison and justice system in the first place. It is not to apprehend legally defined criminals, but rather to make the need for criminal activity altogether unnecessary. With possession of marijuana being a criminal activity in this country, the only way to obtain the plant is illegally. Our jails are stuffed to the "grim" as it is. Can't we make some room for the real moral criminals? I sincerely hope that a reasonable member of this reasonable government is willing to take my words here to heart, and to Congress.

I know that I am not the only constituent who thinks we could be doing a lot better on the simple things. Hopefully, for all of our sakes, you are of the same mind. Thank you for your time."

Please, please just drop the government a direct line with me at Congress.org. It's super easy, and all it takes is just about five or ten minutes to relay your thoughts. This issue means a huge amount to me, and a lot to all those in prison for marijuana offenses, which really are quite trivial in light of some of the violent, destructive, and truly inhumane crimes that we need to confront as it is. An open federal government would allow greater prospects for the continued acceptance of medicinal marijuana use.

Thank you!!

I just sent some emails and am trying to spread the word through FB notes... and if I can overcome the intense feelings of disgust and filthiness, myspace as well.

I just made the calls, and I notified my state's Senators and Representative of my support for HR 5843. Hopefully, it will matter to them.

This was the e-mail I received from California Senator Dianne Feinstein in response to my above letter concerning this bill:

Thank you for your letter expressing your opinion on the legalization of marijuana.

Dear Mr. [bkadoctaj]:

Please know that I do not support the legalization of any narcotic drugs, including marijuana. My convictions on this matter have been developed over many years of experience in criminal justice, including nine years as a mayor who worked very closely with the law enforcement community. I know the tragedy that drug abuse causes in the lives of the addicted and on victims of drug-related crimes and their families. I have seen the devastation drugs can inflict on a community.

I do recognize that marijuana may have medicinal properties that could alleviate conditions such as AIDS-related wasting and chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting. I do not oppose further research on the potential medical efficacy of marijuana and support compassionate use in medical situations when prescribed by a physician in writing for serious and/or catastrophic illnesses.

Again, thank you for taking the time to write. If you have any further questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact my Washington, D.C. office at (202) 224-3841. I also urge you to utilize my website, http://feinstein.senate.gov, to keep up to date with current Senate activities and the work I am doing for California.

Sincerely yours,
Dianne Feinstein
United States Senator

Overall, a rather disappointing response from a Democratic Senator presiding over a state with legalized medicinal marijuana. Don't lose hope. Let's show these politicians that marijuana use in not considered abuse by increasingly aware Americans. Trust in government comes with trust by government in the people to be responsible.
