here is my letter to senator boxer of california

Dear Senator Boxer,

My name is David (blank) and I would like to bring to light an issue which I recently discovered while browsing an online forum. According to the post and the news article attached which is http://rawstory.com/news/2008/Congre...onal_0417.html.

According to this story there is a bill being presented which intends to "Make Way for Serious Criminals" by removing federal prosecution for indidivuals possessing marijuana.

First off, I feel blessed to live in the land of the free. But sometimes I wonder how free I really am. It is discouraging to know that I am labeled a criminal by my government for consuming a plant which has never produced an overdose of any kind. It can be vaporized or cooked in the oven with fats or oils, which removes the carcinogens from what you ingest.

It has extremely economic potential for the state of California and most of the midwest us. Please consider the potential this bill offers. While you may not smoke marijuana yourself, there are millions of people out there that do. Please feel compassion for these people because they could be lawyers, business people, doctors, psychologists, teachers, ect that are living in secret in fear of being thrown in jail over a little bit of marijuana. They used to spread propaganda in movies ect that marijuana turned you into a non-productive member of society. This simply isn't true. Infact, in some people it inspires great creativity and focus.

These are the reasons I support this bill and I hope you will to. Thank you for your time and I hope you will consider this letter when contemplating the issue at hand.

Have a nice day Senator.

c'mon, in light of 4/20, everybody should be acting on this. SEND EMAIL OR CALL YOUR STATE REPS!!!!!!! If people get heard, thats a step in the right direction, even if nothing changes. When peoples opinions are heard it adds more validity to the other side of the argument, and proves that theres a case for both sides (to biased people). Everyone should be doing something about this, if enough peope respond, it WILL HELP, even if it doesnt change anything right away.

Is this stickied yet because it should be

wrong. this is to rid the federal government of prosecuting those who use marijuana i.e. DEA raids on patients in California. States will have the choice to set penalties for marijuana use and the age limit I believe.

Correct me if im wrong but I thought if the senate and the house both voted in favor, even if bush vetoes the bill, it would pass, checks and balances to make sure no one has too much power. it would be 2/3's of the vote. Dont think bush has all the power, because he dosent.

double wrong. your description only matches 1 of the 2 bills which are being introduced.

I was skeptical about this at first as well. I have had my information stolen by seemingly legitimate websites who ust copy an actual legit website's source code. However, the link from norml.com, which i fully trust, leads directly to this 'capwiz' site. It is not a hoax, you can feel secure entering your information

I hope everybody understands how rare this is, and how huge of an opportunity it is for us. It's the first bill regarding cannabis decriminalization to reach congress in decades, who knows when another will come along? I fully agree that such a rare opportunity deserves to be stickied on each and every forum on this website, as well as all other cannabis forums.

I plan on taping flyers to parking meters in my town, asking to support H.R 5843 and providing all necessary information to get the job done. Laugh at me if you like, but I'm going to do whatever I can to make it legal for me to spend next year's 4.20 smoking a joint in public without worrying about the pigs.

You can never do too much; you may feel like sending a single e-mail to your congressman is doing your part, but it's just a tiny sliver of what you could actually be doing to get the word out.

And if you won't even take the time to send that e-mail, then you truly don't deserve to be graced by the great herb.

I feel very passionate about this bill because I recognize the rarity of it, and the opportunity we have been given. Can you say the same?

I love the city's wealth of knowledge.

So does this mean that IF this is passed it will be legal to grow?

This is a step in the right direction. Unfortunately, things of this nature have to be taken step by step. In a perfect world, cannabis would be legalized immediately and we could start benefiting from the industrialization of it. But this bill is definitely great!

Exactly ! It takes maybe 5 minutes to send an email. People dont understand how rare this bill is. This could be our only shot for at least the next 2 or 3 years. Everyone on this site should be spreading the word.
