| Re: HR 5843 Contact Your Reps NOW! Congressman introduces bill
Got an email back from one of my state reps.
Didn't really have much to say, besides that it really isn't in the state's power. Quote: Dear Mr. Nugglord, Thank you for your email regarding the legalization of marijuana. I appreciate your suggestion and the opportunity to respond with what I hope will be helpful information. As your State Senator, I work hard on State of Michigan issues important to you. I appreciate your efforts to share your suggestion to legalize the use of marijuana. As I am sure you are aware, last year a group of citizens gathered enough petition signatures in an initiative to put the use of medicinal marijuana directly before voters on the general election ballot. On November 4, 2008, voters approved the ballot initiative and the use of medicinal marijuana is now considered legal within the State of Michigan. For additional information regarding medicinal marijuana, please reference the Department of Community Health’s (DCH) website (http://www.michigan.gov/mdch/0,1607,7-132-27417_51869_52136---,00.html). That being said, the legalization of marijuana in general is federally outlawed. In fact, should the State of Michigan enact leaner drug regulations, federal policies outlawing drugs would take precedent over Michigan’s laws. Therefore, I encourage you to contact your federal representatives at the phone number, address, and/or email address below as they have direct influence over federal polices. Once again, thank you for taking the time to contact me. In the future, please do not hesitate to do so again regarding any state issue of your concern. Sincerely, Michael Prusi Senate Democratic Leader 38th District |
