Obama will NOT legalize marijuana these two WILL
Despite what you may have heard Obama will not be legalizing marijuana even though he has tried it, I have done lots of research. Mike Gravel will do it, in fact its one of his top priorities, to end the "War on Drugs". Just watch the video real quick
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3qu0C3TW3Xk&NR=1 Ron Paul is another who will do it but it wouldn't happen immediately, its not too high on his list of priorities, though he is another good candidate. Watch the video on Mike Gravel tho, and do more research, he actually speaks the truth something we need more in politics. Everyone who researches Gravel says his biggest problem is that he is not popular enough, well this is why I'm spreading the word. If everyone did who knows what could happen, youtube, myspace etc. are powerful tools. |

The thing is that legalization if it ever happens, it isn't going to happen overnight. So we have to see Obama getting to the presidency (if he does) as a baby step toward our overall goal of legalization. Obama has stated publicly that he will not conduct raids on medical marijuana patients in states where it is legal because he sees it a waste of resources. He has also states that he thinks that decriminalization is something to consider as an alternative. Now I know it's not full on tokin' in the streets legality, but in my book it would be a minor victory to have someone in office with enough common sense to realize that our draconian drug laws are not working. Before legalization can happen we need a few things to happen to change peoples minds about pot, 1) Pot heads need to smoke some sativas so we don't have couch lock, get off our asses and organize, educate and vote. 2) Some of us need to stop living up to the dumb, loser, stoner stereotype or we will never be take seriously. 3) Some of the old school hard line Ultra-Conservative politicians need to die off so the (for the most part) more liberal baby boomer's who used pot or are familiar with pot culture can have more influence in the political landscape. The bush administration has dealt a pretty major blow to our country in many ways including to the legalization movement, but we have a chance to change that very soon. In all reality as much as I hate to admit it and as much as I'd love to see someone with their common sense in office, Gravel and Paul never really had a chance. Obama may not be our marijuana messiah but he is our best bet for taking a step forward in the movement, but that's just my opinion.

HE IS the biggest issue stopping states, along with a Republican party that has been forgetting that it is supposed to be a party that favors smaller Gov interference in States rights in these kinds of matters, from being able to legalize. As a matter of FACT, 13+ states HAVE LEGALIZED IT in one form or another. The problem is that our current White House policy is to FIGHT THE WAR, no matter what war you are talking about, so the DEA (a FEDERAL agency) has raided numerous Dispensary locations that were set up as best as can be set up to "State Law" including paying State/Fed Taxes on both the 'sales tax' and 'employee taxes' and were operating very openly including getting permissions and or permits from local authority including in some cases from the local sheriff that had no intention of enforcing Federal Law since having mandates from its citizens to allow for the operation of these facilities within it's city/county limits within restrictions (look at LA). The Pres can change it's policy on enforcement with respect to State Laws. This would be a start. After this type of policy is in place, States would be able to have more confidence that IF they pass a law they will be able to enforce that law without Federal interference. This could help some of the guys that are sitting on the fence, like Gov Swartz who vetoed a Bill that would allow the production of Hemp (THC levels would be tested and maintained below something stupid like 1% so it won't get you high) in the state because he felt that he would be putting farmers at risk of Fed raids that would be trying to follow a State law that violates a Fed Law, if that makes sense. Bush COULD ask that policy change and have Cannabis reclassified to a schedule much like tobacco and booze and allow for State regulation as to it's use and tax. But unfortunately that ain't gonna happen. BTW - Hi all this is my first post! and I hope nobody takes offense to my rant that is all it is, this is such a frustrating issue |
