opinions on decriminilization of marijuana in America

I think its time for the govt. to stop wasting billions in tax dollars every year for a plant that is relitevely harmless when hundreds if not thousands of people die from alcohol every year.
so we accept a drug that kills people and throw people in jail for a natural plant because harry j. Anslinger (former drug commisioner for the treasury department) told everyone that you would go insane, kill people, and have uncontrollable sexual urges. since then we have disproved every negative side effect stated by this drug czar since then millions of people have been sent to jail for something that is healthier for you than legal alchohol why is it so important to them persecute people for smoking this herb when people have been using it for thousands of years with no negative side effects besides hunger, laughter, and thirst? They sey if you smoke pot youll remove yourself from society and become a loser. when the only reason this happens is because of the laws and peoples conclusions that its dangerous and harmful to society. why dont they get on with and legalize it because that would take most of the criminal activity away from it as it wouldnt be profitable. instead drawing money from society it would be contributing to society with taxation. how much longer will we be persecuted?

Actually, the reason why MJ is illegal is that big business(dupont) developed a synthetic rope that it wanted the US gov to buy, back in the late 1930s, but it cost more than hemp rope so they got MJ added to the new law on narcotics at the time. The real tragedy is how stupid the avg. American is that they buy into the garbage the gov now spews out about MJ. A prime example of gov's propaganda will be happening this weekend on ABC, the 9/11 not a documentary, will put a spin on this epic tragedy that will have the blame focused on the Clinton admin as the chief culprit and the majority of americans will go away with beleiving what they watched is the real truth.

yeah your right about anslinger be the gov chief advocate of criminalizing it, however, it was dupont who paid him to think that way! And that was from a research paper done in college by one of my profs and while I can't quote who did what and where the research paper was part of his doctorate theises.
