So i plan on turning my speaker cabinet/entertainment stand into a growing area. The cabinet is about 20" wide and deep. The bottom section, which would be the flowering area is roughly 2' high, and the top is roughly 1'.

I want to light proof just the growing chambers and leave the top shelf open for the Xbox, and cable box. My question is what would be the best way to this? should i replace the glass door with wood painted black, or make compartments. like cabinets with in cabinets. Also should i use a 150 HPS or CFL (im trying to spend the least amount of money possible but keep it efficient) Mylar or white paint? And lastly, What kind of lights should i use for the vegging chamber? they dont make T5's that would fit my dimensions do they?

to save you some space, i would suggest using cfl's since they don't produce much heat and you wouldn't have room taken up by fans or have to purchase an expensive fan. Like Virus said, you might wanna look into a bigger flower chamber unless your going to train the mess out out you plant(s). They do have small t5 light's, you just might have to shop around a bit. try the hydro stores, just saw a 200w cfl light and reflector for $60, but you would have to get a 27k light bulb for flowering. Then i would use white paint, since it's cheaper than mylar. I think the best results for this set up would come from you using the grow area to veg and flower, that way you can utilize your entire space and probably get 2) 2 1/2ft plants.

about light proofing it i would just paint the glass white and put a design on the outside and use weather stripping to seal the cracks. or buy some plywood and hinges.

@ danniem, i might just get rid of the veg chamber because i dont think they make T5's smaller then 2'. and theyre selling 150 HPS at HTGsupply for around $60. this guy >>> http://forum.grassci...ogrows-box.html is using a HPS in about the same size grow area as me, so i figured i could throw in a mall oscillating fan and that would solve the heat problem. also got the LST idea from him.
