it all depends on how tall your grow space is and how tall you want the ending height to be... you can flower from seed if you wanted to...

Thanks, i just thought it depended on strains and stuff, i thought giving them a generous veg time benefits towards branch strength and sturdyness etc... Do they continue growing stronger through flowering also ?

they will grow for about 2/3 of their flower cycle then slow down and the buds will fill out, the longer you veg, the bigger the plant, the better the yield, if everything is done correct. you can expect about double to triple the size from when you start 12/12 to finish..depending on genetics.

I find they usually stop stretching around week 3 flower and then grow inches bigger as they fill in with buds...I would also trim all the stems and leaves 1/3 of the way up from the dirt because they wont get light and just make popcorn buds

Do you mean just the fan leaves at the bottom? or the actual nodes too ?

yup all the way to the main stem..it's called lollipopping if you wanna look it up..you can take a few branches at a time through the first weeks of flower or all at once and give it a week to recover...you can also use them to make clones if you want

I mean the lower nodes have already reached direct light so why cut them?

Light gets extremely weak by the time it gets down there...plus they are going to grow a lot bigger in 3 weeks so it will be pretty far down and shaded...they will grow buds but it will be tiny fluffy popcorn buds

just trim the smaller new branches and leafs off of the bigger branches coming off of the main stem and set a certain height to go up to like in tintizzys photo up to about 8in" or so from the bottom those bigger branches are cleaned out.. anything below that is pretty much just going to cause you problems. they are more likely to get mildew, bugs and will decrease the airflow up through your plant..so its pretty much useless to leave the lower new growth on.

look at tin's picture, perfect example, look how all of the foliage is removed from the bottom of the plants.. there is no rule about it or anything, all of the new little tiny branches coming off at the very bottom will never receive enough light to fully mature or be big enough buds to even worry about. pain in the ass to trim/waste of time... so trimming the "junk" off the bottom early on will increase the air flow through the plant, reduce the amount of energy being wasted on growing those small tiny branches, and reduce the risk of mildew and bugs.

Your plant is going to start using all it's resources to making bud, and the first place it's gonna pull from is those lower fan leaves that don't get light anymore anyway. I would trim those off and let the plant use it's energy elsewhere. Does that make sense? Fuck i'm stoned. Instead of fluffy popcorn buds on the bottom, the tops will be fatter. In theory and practice I have found.
