ok, so i'm trying to figure out how to give my babys more co2. as of late, i've been putting a gallon sized zip-lock over them directly after giving them a bath in seltzer water. i know the seltzer is a controversial subject as to whether it works or not, but when i do this the next day they seem bigger and greener (maybe just wishfull thinking on my part). anywho, i'm trying to figure out how to open and contain the co2 from a bb gun co2 cartridge, and use that in almost the same fashion. could i just buy a "nitrous cracker" and use co2 cartridges? are those "whipped cream maker" refills the same dimentions as the co2 bb gun cartridge? any help is greatly appreciated.

a cheap CO2 gun is made by just using a seltzer with no water in it. this way a stream of gas comes out. you'll need to have something like a clear garbage bag for the plants though, as CO2 is heavier than air, and thus will fall right out the bottom of anything placed over it. you might want to try placing a clear plastic bag over the plants, inflating it with CO2, then tying it off around the plants base. this traps the gas, and still allows light through :D

I just make the following mix and put as many bottles in my chamber as I can, works pretty well, the plants can survive high temps and you can actually smell the difference in the air when you open the chamber because the amount of co2 is pretty high:

Materials:

1 2 liter soda bottle with cap
1 1/4 tsp measuring spoon
1 Pyrex liquid measuring cup
1 Dry measuring cup (1 cup size)
1 Funnel
Hot Tap Water
Yeast
Sugar

Procedure:

-Take off the cap of the 2 liter soda bottle and poke the smallest hole you can in the cap.

-Clean/sterilize the bottle with hot tap water and rinse out until clean on the inside. Do the same for the cap

-Fill Pyrex cup with 1 liquid cup of extremely hot tap water

-Measure out one dry cup of sugar and pour into pyrex cup

-Stir thoroughly until sugar is dissolved in water

-Pour mixture through funnel into 2 liter bottle

-Repeat mixture once more and pour into 2 liter bottle

-Measure out 1/4 tsp. of yeast and pour into 2 liter bottle

-Quickly cover bottle with cap

-Shake vigorously

-Remove cap and pour a small amount of sugar onto surface of mixture.

-Screw cap back onto bottle

That's it. Just put it behind your ventilation fan that is pointing towards your plants and let the co2 enriched mixture go. It should last 4-7 days I believe.

This works kind of like o2 for humans, the more the better. So if you can fit more into your space, then go for it, but after a certain point it will become pointless to put more in.

Remember to refrigerate your yeast after opening it as it dies readily at room temperature if it doesn't have something to feed on.

If all goes well the plants will survive temps as high as 98 to 120 I've heard and it's much better for the plants to be at those temps when the air is co2 enriched anyways. Though I wouldn't try to exceed 100 as I'm pretty sure you can heat stress the plants still even with co2 enriched air.

This is simply a good way at getting around those scary high temperatures during the summer without having to invest in an expensive cooling system which is basically how I'm using it, but y'know increased plant vigor is always a plus.

try sitting around doing nothing all day. smoke a fat joint, eat some cheetohs, and play grand theft auto. above all else, do not move from the reclining position.

another thing i was thinging about doing was gitting a coiled remote for a pb gun, its like $3 to fill a tank and just slightly turn in on, just a little c02 coming out. and put it in a storage container with ur air pumps, anyone no if this would work?

oh and those whipped cream things are c02, thats what gets u "high" from them, but the high can kill u (from c02 poisning) ;)

lol, no problem. Yeh, when I figured this out two days ago from my friend's girlfriend who's into aquariums, I was like "holy shit!"

But yeh, I heard about it on wikipedia first, but the best proportions for that solution is the one I posted I think.

My plants perked right up when I put two of those bottles in there, but I've heard one is plenty for a small grow.

EDIT: ROFMLAO, why do you have so much rep with so few posts? that's hilarious.

Can you use the CO2 enrichment all the way through till harvest, or should it be only a vegging thing? I'm about 2 weeks into flowering and saw some before and after pics of plants getting CO2 and they looked really healthy.

co2 is probably best during flowering.

oh, and yes adding a pinch of sugar is the part I forgot to add. It gets the yeast to really "wake up" so to speak.

co2 is absorbed by the leaves for sure. During the light cycle, the aeriolae (or something to that name or nature, basically it's like plant pores) open up and absorb co2. When there's more co2 available, more of these aeriolae open up. This extra amount of co2 promotes maximum growth possible under the amount of light given. The more light, the more co2, the faster growth. If combined with large amounts of aeration to the soil for better oxygen flow to the roots (hence the popularity of using canna coco as a substrate) as well as a proper watering cycle, nutrient supplementation (feeding), training, FIMing, and Supercropping, one can have an extremely vigorous and strong, healthy plant.

During the dark cycle, the aeriolae close up and co2 is not necessary during the dark cycle. The plant focuses its energies towards hormone production (I believe, but am not certain about that) and vegitative growth. With the yeast/sugar solution, however, I just leave it in the grow area as the solution lasts for a little over a week and a half. But with a tank or so forth, it might be within one's interests to close the co2 valve so as to conserve co2 for later.

Joint smoke can be a good source of co2? :smoking: :smoking:

I believe cannabis VAPOR would be more effective, but either way I doubt it's enough co2 to make a noticable difference . . . but I'm sure that smoking in a large grow room is a nice feeling.
